Barker moved forward toward the radio station. He walked in and made sure it was clear. "Leo, stay out here with Jennings and guard the entrance. Rickman unless you know anything about communication, stay out here with these two, I want your squad out here too. The rest of you, with me." He led his squad through the building, he walked up the stairs to the main broadcasting room. Barker pointed at a console. "Lix, upload the evacuation plan to the console, it may get through, I doubt the covenant thought of jamming the radio station. It's worth a try and defiantly better than nothing."

Alex saluted the man and turned to his squad "you heard 'im, everyone! Weapons at the ready." he said as he lifted his weapon and found himself a good bit of cover. He then reached up a hand and activated his VIS-R so the dust in the air wouldn't obstruct his vision if the covenant caught up to them. The rest of his team did likewise.

Lix groaned immediately when she saw what she had to work with. She mumbled something under her breath about "Have I wronged someone someplace? Why cant I have nice things?" She removed her comm unit, placing the large box down beside the console. She pulled a cord from the pack, and after a short amount of hunting, plugged it into the console's port. She then began typing away, complaining beneath her breath about 'outdated pieces of junk.' She finished a rather long sequence of keystrokes, and watched as the data scrolled across the screen, hinting at her success. "Do it," she growled as the console paused.... "Don't fuck with me..." Still it did nothing. So it received a quick kick from a steel-clad army boot, and not so miraculously, it started loading. "Good kiddo." Talking to items of technology was not unusual for Lix. Her squad generally tolerated this eccentricity because she knew what she was doing better than anyone else in the group. That, and she was pretty sure they got amusement out of hearing her talk to circuit boards as if they were misbehaving children. "What do you mean 'transmission failure'?" she grumbled, kneeling down to open the circuit panel. "Tell me what's up, what's got your wires all crossed?" She began inspecting the large array of wires and circuitry closely. Come to think of it... the guys probably liked the nice views they got whenever she was leaning over to check on her work too.

Leo nodded and shouldered his DMR. 'We'll keep you safe, boss man. Alrighty, boys and girls, time to show these Covie bastards how humanity does things! Lock and load, people!' He turned to the ODST leader. 'If you have a sniper, I want him in a nearby tower on overwatch. Also, any ordnance you might have needs to take cover in a couple of rock clusters just behind the sniper; the Covenant are bound to bring in heavy armour when they hear us sending an evacuation plan to the colony.'

((I'd like to point out as a squad leader of a unit of ODSTs, I'm pretty sure she outranks you. Also, we are in an urban area, there are no rocks. Nevermind.))
Barker looked around while Lix worked, in her usual quirky way. He played the evacuation plan over in his comm speakers. "To all UNSC and receiving Apollo citizens, we are being ordered to evacuate Apollo. Gather anything you can grab that will not slow you down and head east out of the city toward the museum plaza, shuttles will be waiting for you. This message will repeat... To all UN-"[/i] It wasn't much of a plan, but it was something. He took the chip from his helmet and gave it to Lix. "That will have to do - We will have to just hope like hell it works. Put it in and let's go." Barker and his squad left the building, he looked to the east and saw the evacuation shuttles starting to come down from the Frigate. "Just in time,"he muttered to himself. Suddenly there was a deafening sound of Covenant corvette coming to a stop over to the west. "Shit!"He yelled over the noise. "No doubt that ship saw our frigate, and the shuttles, we have to go and do...something. Head west, into the bush, we will have to try and disable the ship!"

((actually Alex is second, but all the same, he's still a ranking ODST, and Leo is only a lower ranking marine in his squad))
Alex already didn't like the way this Marine just took control of the situation all the time, so he made his rank clear, by turning to the marine and growling "who put you in charge, marine?" he then turned his attention back ahead of them. "you might be a good soldier, that doesn't make you better than anyone. You'd do well to remember that" He turned to Axel -Griffyn 4- giving him a shout. "four! have the drones caught anything?" he asked, referring to the unmanned longsword drones that were flying around the city. Axel kept track of the wide-range tracking equipment and his VIS-R system was rigged up to receive information from the drones in the area, so he was the metaphorical radar of the ODST squad. "nothin' sir! But orbital defenses are getting some weird-ass readings, the sooner those evac shuttles get everyone out of the city, the better!" the ODST replied. Alex frowned slightly and when Barker and his men emerged from the radio station, he stood, ready to head out.
The sound of the corvette stopping put all his men on immediate alert. "Sir! I'm getting visual on that Corvette from the drones! looks like its not far from here!" Axel reported, standing as the rest of the squad did to follow the others to the west. As they ran through the bushes, the ODST continued to update them of the corvette's movements as best as he could given most of their drones had been shot down by Phantoms. "Captain Barker! If we can get ourselves a Phantom or banshees perhaps, I think we could steal ourselves into that corvette! Griffyn 3 has some explosives we could use to take it out from the inside!" Alex called to the Marine leader, shooting down a lone grunt as it emerged from the bushes, before it had a chance to fire back. "you want a Phantom, you got it! get me into one of those things and I'll beat the crap outta the fleabags drivin' it for ya'!" Scarlet called forward, clearly looking forward to bashing some covenant skulls in.
((hope that's okay XD))

Lix finalized things for herself at the terminal before following after her captain. She felt more relieved to be rid of that heavy comms unit. Though leaving it behind was necessary, she still hated to just dump good equipment like that. She remained quiet as they rallied with the rest of the squad and dashed into the bush to avoid being spotted by the Corvette that had swooped overhead. She expected they were gonna get swarmed any minute. She liked the ODSTs plan, it was somewhat brazen and risky, just like she'd expect out of a trooper. She made no comment though, knowing that when it came to decisions like these, Barker would ask her if he wanted her opinion. If he didn't, it was a good opportunity to just shut it.

Leo growled inwardly at the ODSTs response, but got ready regardless. Deciding he shut his mouth before he join the queue for a court martial, he fixed his eye bandage and unslung his rifle. Well, that was the plan, before he heard what they wanted to do. 'Not to open my mouth candidly at a superior officer or whatever, but I have a feeling they'll know if we hijack a Banshee or Phantom.'

Barker ordered his squad to stop and lay low in the scrub. He did not like the ODSTs plan what so ever, but did they have much of a choice? It was his squad's safety or the almost certain death of all those who were trying to evacuate. Really, it wasn't much of a choice. "Leo has a point, they are murders, not idiots. Leo see if you can spot a way in from down here, I don't wanna be screwing around up there if we have to resort to that." Barker looked ahead, there was a firebreak about 30 meters away 20 meters wide. There were bodies of civilians and some soldiers littering it. Barker looked through the scrub on the other side of the firebreak, there was a line of turrets, ready to destroy any movement into the break. "That's where we are going." He said to his squad

Alex knew it was a risky idea, so he wasn't surprised that Barker wasn't too keen on it. That said, trying to break through a line of well-fortified enemy territory didn't seem much less like suicide to him...on that note, nothing in war was ever easy, so it made no difference to him. He was the type to just follow orders, no matter if they were suicidal or not, it wasn't like he had anything to go back to on his homeworld anyway. "well that's one big can of whoop-ass there..." he remarked, counting the turrets he could see. "no kiddin'...thermal scans show additional covie troops in back. Looks like their prepared if those turrets go down." one of the other shock troopers added, a hand moving to switch their visor back to normal vision.

Lix stayed close by Barker's side, remaining silent as the others discussed their next course of action. She fixed stuff and played with computers, other than that, she just did as she was told.

Leo scoped in towards the Covenant foot soldiers with his DMR. Switching to thermal, he confirmed the number of soldiers there. "Sir, thermal confirm on Covenant troops hidden 'round the back. They'll be on us the moment we hit the turrets, no doubt. Switching to electrical." He flicked a switch on the scope, giving him a vision that showed electrical currents and systems. Just behind the small army of Covenant was an anti-gravity platform, which would have been where they came from. Leo sighted up the pathway of the grav lift, spotting the underbelly of the Covenant Corvette. "In other news, Covenant forces inbound from Corvettes current LZ. If we can either find a way around the split-jaws, or punch a hole through them, we should be able to make it piece-a-piss, sir."

Barker shook his head disdainfully thinking of the situation. "They wouldn't leave their ass end undefended, though in my experience it has always been the least defended. That been said, those turrets will take three seconds to turn around and fire at us." he deepened his thoughts, his eyes glassing over, as they did when he was silently calculating and problem solving. Then, as if a light-bulb had gone off or a grenade had just exploded inside his train of thought, he had it all figured out. "What we need to do is find a high spot behind them, we need a sniper up there, - " He pointed at Leo. "That's you, though being a scrub area, it will be hard to find a good spot, climb a tree for all I care. Then we need at least one rocket, two would be better." He looked at Alex. "I'm sure there would have been a heavy weapons specialist with you, go back to the pods and bring back a launcher, if there is one." Barker looked over across the firebreak, the turrets looking back unwittingly. "Leo, you will fire some shots at the lesser defended areas behind them, how you get around there is up to you. Once it grabs the attention of some of the other soldiers they should investigate, that's when Alex will fire a rocket into the group, that in turn will kill of some of them and draw the attention of the turrets, when that happens we will kill the little shits from behind, run through the firebreak, take the turrets for ourselves and rip apart the rest of the enemies guarding the lift." Barker realized he hadn't breathed in the entirety of his speech, and so took a deep breath, as he went over it again in his head.
((Is that a SPARTAN grade plan or what!?))

Alex immediately nodded and turned to the largest of his crew, murmuring an order to him, the large man then took Scarlet with him to sneak back to the pods and retrieve the second Launcher their team had been issued, which was still in one of the unopened pods. it didn't take too long and soon enough they returned with the weapon on-hand. They had a few rounds for it as well, so it would certainly come in handy. "we're ready, Barker" Alex reported, as soon as the launcher was prepped for the plan. "Stand firm, Gryffin" he uttered to his group, who readied their weapons and took positions ready to launch their attack.

Lix concealed the smallest of smiles behind her eye-level visor. She knew there was a damn good reason Barker had been given this squad. It was the same reason she'd stuck around with him her entire (fairly short) career. Sure, in such a combat orientated group her specialist skills were not often required, but she still liked to be considered a part of such a tactical genius's team. That said, she had noticed that he relied on her for any real technical work - it was good to be appreciated. Most of her kind were side-lined by their cohorts because the fight was all they felt mattered - what with AIs capable of so much more than her. She silently set about checking all her gear, just to be sure she was ready for that final charge. It felt good to be free of that heavy comm unit, she would definitely be of more use to them this way.
((When I say "Eye Level Visor" think of the marines from Halo 1 that had that little screen, only it runs the entire width of her helm and drops below her eyes (going over her nose) kind of like glasses would. It just lets her interface with computers and shtuff))
