Simone then turned and began walking again. She walked right past one of the rooms, grumbling something about "Micheal's room" under her breath. Next, she stopped at a section with a door on either side of the hallway. "This is daddy's office" she pointed toward the one on her right. "And this is..." she bit her cheek, staring at the door for a moment and then up at Kai. "Daddy teaches martial arts" she'd obviously decided that she would be allowed to tell Kai this much.
"Don't go in there unless the door is open. Even then, you should knock to make sure he is not busy." Micheal, fully dressed, had come out of his room. "Go and get ready for school Simone. You don't want to be late"
She made a face at him, but let go f Kai's hand. She turned round and skipped down to her room, shutting the door quietly behind her.
"Students often come and stay here while Mr Chen teaches them. They come from all over. He is a very good teacher."

Kai peered over her glasses at this new arrival briefly, hiding the motion skillfully, as if she did it all the time, he was orange a bright orange... not bad.
She then ground her teeth and looked around aggravated by her inability to reply... she hated feeling rude. There was something about everyone here, they were all hiding something, she could tell... but so far she didn't think it was anything quite as sinister in intention as her assailant.

John then walked out of his office. His hair was tied up as usual now. He wore black slacks, black trousers. A plain black shirt and a black jacket with good luck bats in silver on the chest. He smiled when he noticed Kai and Micheal outside. He gave them both a brief nod, then walked own to Simone's room. Be knocked lightly. She opened the door and he kneeled down to give her a quick hug just inside of the hallway before standing up and leaving though the front door without a word.
Simone had her school top on and her pajama pants on, so she closed her door again to finish getting changed.
"I have to go and take Simone to school soon. sorry" he said casually, his hand in his short pockets. "You can stay here with Monique. Don't leave" he grimaced. "My Chen'd have my head, so could you just stay here? please? I'l bring your friend aroun here after 3pm. k?" his tone lightened, "Maybe you can show Monica some Western cooking" he screwed up his ace jokingly, "Mr Chen doesn't like much Western food, so she doesn't cook any. Totally sucks" he laughed, leading her back into the lounge room.

Kai nodded quietly to everything of course, agreeing with everything was easier then trying to comprehend the situation she found herself in. She'd felt alienated all her life, but now even more so.
She followed Michael back to the Lounge room and took a seat on the same chair she'd woken on early that morning. She said nothing, and made no gesture that she really truly got what was going on.

"Let's go Micheal" Simone came in the room and gave Kai a small hug without thinking. "I wish I could stay home with you" she sighed, "But Micheal has to take me to school and go to class himself now"
Micheal waited by the door for Simone. She let go of Kai and went to join him. They both left without another word.
"Would you like another cup of tea Miss?" Monica came out soon after, seeming much happier now that they were all out of the apartment.

Kai was startled to tears by the hug, carefully wiping away the brief tears as Simone rushed off. She turned her eyes to look at Monique and shook her head. She collected the two cups that were still there from this morning and stood, bringing them over towards Monique, intending to help in any way she could. She need to repay the kindness that had been shown to her.

Monica bustled herself with work around the kitchen. Ever surfaces that were spotless got a thorough wash over. "So, what have they told you?" she asked, trying to keep her voice even. It had either gotten colder suddenly or she was scared of something because her voice had broken a little bit.

Kai entered the kitchen and gently placed the cup she held in the sink. She then turned to face Monique and frowned lightly, tilting her head in a questioning manner.
Have they told me what? she thought to herself.

Monique quickly rushed out of the room and returned with the notepad and pen, handing it to Kai with a sympathetic smile, "Sometimes Sir's students come here. They stay in the two rooms down the end of the hall. And.." she opened up the pantry door and glared down at a large cylinder glass container, full of black beads. "Don't open or touch this... I don't know what's inside it. But Sir has even told Simone not to touch it" she gave Kai a weak smile, "Simone is not told not to do a lot of things" she gave an affectionate chuckle.

Kai frowned lightly at the strange jar, again content to just conform to peoples wishes.
She then turned to the paper to write something.
I do not wish to intrude. I am sure Mia and myself could return home without incident...[/b] she was lying, she wasn't entirely sure, but secretly she felt dread at the thought of being around Simone... and her father.
John seemed to sap all the happy energy from her, replacing it with pity... and Simone reminded her of Natalya... her eyes saddened at the thought.

Monica leaned over to see the note and was about to comment when the phone began to ring. SHe ran over to it and answered, "Hello? Chen Household"
There was silence for a few moments, then, "Yes Leo. Sure, I'll tell her. Goodbye" she put the phone down and turned back to Kai, "Leo is the other man that lives here. There's Sir, Simone, Leo, Micheal and myself" she said each name, ticking them off on her fingers. "Leo teaches Martial Arts for a man down in the suburbs. He went there to joke around with Micheal a few weeks ago and was offered a job. Mr Chen said it was a very good idea. He spends too much of his time around the apartment" she smiled. "Well, he said that he would pick up Simone and then pick up your friend Mia because Micheal has caught himself up"
By then, Monica had begun to get out ingredients from the pantry. Flower, spices... lots of different strong smelling powders.

Kai was very curious now, this entire family seemed to already know about her and Mia's plight... and yet she'd only turned up last night... while they were all sleeping.
She also noted that her comment had gone on ignored, again
She stepped forward and tapped Monica on the shoulder, imploring her attention. She then gestured around the kitchen, hoping that Monica would realise she was offering some help.
She needed to do something if they were all so intent on keeping her here.
She had not doubt that Mia would fit in... Mia was of North American Indian decent, very deep, thoughtful and a no-rubbish woman. Down to earth and in tune with it.
And she did kick boxing...

Monica looked at Kai and nodded, picking out her expression. "I'm making Tom Yum Kung for tonight's dinner" she reached into a packet and tok out some bamboo shoots and took a small knife out of a wooded casing. "They need to be as small as you can get them" she placed the bamboo shoots and the knife on a chopping board and returned to mixing up spices in a small ceramic dish.

Kai chuckled silently again, remembering what Michael had said to her earlier, about them never eating European dishes... she'd not been able to tell him so, but neither did she. Mia only ate the dishes traditional to her tribe... vegetables and breads making up most of the diet, this could quite well be a welcome change.
She approached the cutting board and picked up the knife, flinching as the light danced off it's surface... and for a brief second it looked like it was a laser...
She swallowed and inhaling deeply pushed aside her fear and began slicing the bamboo as thinly as she could.

The time passed fast for Monica. Every afternoon did. She was greatful for the extra pair of hands.
At 3:30, the doorbell rang and Monica rushed to the door. "Who is it?"
"It's US Monica. Can we come in now? Please? It's cold out here" Simone complained.
Monica opened up the door. Simone rushed through and gave Monica a hug. Leo stood in the doorway and waited for Mia to pass him. He had to stand to the side, really, as he filled up the door way.
