Despite how slow his movements were, she was still startled by his voice, her nerves still alarmingly tender. She did have a question that had now become her foremost worry.
She pushed herself into a seated position and took the notepad from him in shaking hands. Her writing was almost illegible, her shaking hands making it difficult to write. She hated it... not being able to talk to him.
She wrote one word on the paper.

The corners of John's mouth twitched into a frown. He thought for a moment. "In time you will know" he answered reassuringly. "For now... All I will tell you is that your thoughts are quite loud... maybe, ask me a more specific question. This may get infuriating for you. I understand, but iI can not answer everything right now. My apologies" Although he didn't sound remorseful, he did sound sincere.

Kai bit her lip and nodded. She understood that he could not answer everything. She removed her glasses, as it wasn't particularly bright, but he kept her gaze on her paper. After a brief amount of thought she began to write again. He seemed to know quite a bit, so perhaps he'd be able to answer this one for her.
Is Mia OK?[/u]
She wouldn't be able to forgive herself if something had happened to her best friend.

John nodded once, "She will be arriving here later this afternoon. I will have Micheal pick her up. At the moment she is staying at one of my inns out of town. I assure you, she is very safe" he looked over to the kitchen after hearing a light clutter of pans. "Monica?"
A young women from the Philippines peeked her head around the corner, "Yes sir?"
John looked back at Kai, "Would you like a drink?"

Kai swallowed thickly again, giving a sigh of relief when he told her that Mia was safe. She then looked up without thinking to meet her hosts eyes.
Realizing her mistake she quickly looked away, nodding silently in response to his question.

John looked back at Monica. She smiled, nodded, and disappeared back into the kitchen.
He looked back at Kai, again, making no note to mention her defect. It hadn't taken him long to see it and he'd known since he'd seen her at the local inn that first time. Not that she would know this, he had never actually, physically looked her way.
Quickly, Monica returned with the tea and placed two cups before them on a low table.
John took his off of the plate and sipped it idoly, "I have one question for you actually." he paused, "Why were you in the inn watching Micheal and myself?"

Kai stared at her cup silently for a while before taking a sip and then retrieving her note pad to hesitantly answer his question.
Because you are Black[/u] She wrote, frowning at the vagueness of her answer, before tilting the page for him to see.

John grinned, wide and cheerful suddenly. "That does make sense. It's my..." he chuckled, his eyes glinting, "Favourite colour" he purred the last two words. He said nothing more for a small time. "next question" The humour of his answer still flooded his face. He was practically shining with it. An inside joke.

Kai swallowed, taking another sip of her drink before she turned back to the pad and slowly wrote out her next question. It was plaguing her with torrents of sorrow at the mere thought of it.

John thought about this. "honestly?... I don't know. But now that you are here, and under threat, you may stay here for as long as-"He looked over to the door, heading out into the hallway.
Simone stood there, rubbing her eyes and yawning loudly. "You make a lot of noise daddy" she complained, walking over to him and jumping up onto his lap. She grabbed John's arms and wrapped them around herself, snuggling her head into his shoulder and closing her eyes.
"Simone" he said gently, "This is Kai"
She opened her eyes again and seemed to notice the woman close by for the first time. She suddenly smiled broadly, "Hi!"
John pulled her tighter against him.

Kai had turned down to her paper and had begun writing
I don't wish to impose[/u] But paused mid sentence to look at the little girl she was bright and a whirl with the colours of the rainbow, it brought a smile to Kai's sad face, to see such a different aura compared to the girl's father.
She raised a hand to wave timidly to Simone before handing the note pad to Cori.

John did not look at the pad. Instead, he placed it down on the table without a glance. "I have to go. I will be back later though. I apologise for all of the loose ends." he finished off his tea and called Monica back to take it back to the kitchen. "Simone, will you b able to take Miss Kai and show her around, and where she will be staying, please?"
Simone looked up at him, "Yes Daddy" she said happily, jumping off of John's knees and landing quietly on the carpet. "Come on Kai" she took Kai's hands softly and gave them a tug, trying to get her to go with her.
She stopped momentarily and quickly looked back at John. "Is Uncle Bai coming over today?" she asked hopefully.
"Sunday Simone. Uncle Bai is not home at the moment. He is out at business"
He stood up and left the room to get ready.

Kai allowed the girl to take one of her hands gently, though she carefully removed her bionic one from the girls grasp and ensure the glove was back on before she retrieved her glasses and put them on too.
She tried not to pay much mind to their personal conversation.

The had the entire floor of the apartment, so the space was quite large. Simone kept hold of kai's hand as she led her down the hallway. "This is MY room. I'l show you later. i have this really cool movie that Monica rented out for me yesterday called Mulan" she frowned, "But daddy won't watch it with me. He says that the martial arts in it are really bad. He says he'd get a headache if he'd watch it. she said seriously, "But I think it's fine. He's just a crybaby"

Kai laughed to herself silently, the laugh showing in her highly emotive eyes though they were still concealed behind her glasses.
She now wondered whether Simone's father was a martial Artist, and that's why he was annoyed with the poor quality of the moves in the children's movie.
Unsure of how to acknowledge the girl completely, she squeezed her hand and gave her a small nod and smile
