Shattered Dimensions

[Tifa Lockhart]

Yami only bristled slightly at the other guys taunting, he disliked his arrogance but he had to admit he was very skilled.
"fine, let's up the odds shall we?" he replied with a grin. "i summon the guardian of the fortress!"
A huge dragon burst forth this time and launched into attack simultaneously with the celtic guardian.

Dante whipped out his pistols and began running at the knight-creature, preceded by a storm of bullets. As he got closer, he side flipped over it and instantaneously generated a magical platform beneath him. Leaping higher into the air, Dante quickly re-holstered his guns and pulled out Rebellion again and prepared to attack the dragon headed straight for him.

The knight took some of the bullets, but only faltered, turning to redirect its attack at the man's new location, coming at him from behind while the dragon weathered his attack from the front.
The dragon itself seemed about as intimidated by Dante's sword as he would have a toothpick, it swung its great head sideways, attempting to knock his sword from his hand. If it succeeded it would bite out with its mighty jaws.
'Is this really necessary Pharaoh?' Yugi asked uneasily, noting the tiredness that was slowly growing heavier over them.
'No Yugi... but we cant let anyone who remains alive in this city think we are weak... or they are certain to prey on us,' Yami replied, eyes locked on the battle ensuing.

Dante's sword was knocked from his hand, and he cursed. He summoned it back to him, catching it just as the dragon bit him up.
'Dammit. Now what? Ah, there we go...'

The dragon shrieked as it died from the sword, but as it died Yami decided he had enough.
"Enough," he called, stopping the spell that summoned the celtic guardian. "I played your game, but i will not risk undue harm to Yugi."

[Elario Luminus]

Dante landed on the ground easily and placed Rebellion on his back.
'Can't take the pain, huh? Alright, kid, so you're obviously not into the whole "demon invasion" thing. That's fine. I'm gonna go find an actual demon to toy with.'

Yami looked slightly insulted by the other man's comment.
"Pain is not my concern, while i am in control, he feels none."
The man jumped down from his high vantage point and made his way over to Dante.
"It's a matter of energy, Yugi has been through much of late."
He could feel Yugi's desperation rise as the other man said he was leaving. This was the first friendly face they'd seen in quite some time after all... And spiritual powers or not, Yugi was still just a boy.

Dante shrugged.
'What the kid's been through isn't my problem. This is a world now full to the brim of bottom dwellers. He needs to learn that in the heat of battle, your energy reserves mean nothing.'
He was about to continue when he stopped himself and shrugged again.
'You coming? Sure you have the energy to?'
He smirked and headed off towards the national park. There used to be thousands upon thousands of animals there, and demons had virtually replaced them now.

Yami glared after the other man, not sure he wanted to follow such an indifferent and rude individual.
'Should we really follow this... individual?' he asked Yugi.
'Being around someone else will be safer...' Yugi agreed.
Did you want me to maintain control for now?' Yami added as he began to walk after Dante.
'No... i can handle it,' the younger of the two insisted.
At that Yami relinquished control to Yugi, and the younger boy staggered only slightly at the sudden weight of his own body.
"H-Hey wait!" he called, his voice would be easily distinguishable as someone different. "You know my name, but i don't know yours!" he exclaimed, only stopping his jog when he came to stand beside Dante, offering him a smile.
'Don't let him intimidate you Yugi,' the spirit of the puzzle encouraged him softly.

Dante glanced at the kid and huffed at the change in pitch.
'The name's Dante. What's the deal with your alter ego?'
He was bored, and talking to this kid with the evil twin was the only way to pass time. He smirked at the thought when he realised it could work the other way as well.

"Dante huh? OK, I can remember that," Yugi reiterated to be certain. He was a little surprised by the following question though.
"Oh, you mean the Pharaoh?" he asked, lifting the large upside-down pyramid shaped pendant he was wearing on what looked like a thick iron chain. "He's the spirit of my Millenium Puzzle... he's been there for thousands of years. He helps me. He's not usually so grumpy though..."
The boys gaze fell to the floor and he tripped slightly on a piece of rubble, but he quickly regathered himself. "He's not used to losing on this... scale."

Dante laughed shortly. 'Losing? Is that what his problem is? Sheesh.' He shook his head, then stopped abruptly. 'Wait, you said Millennium Puzzle, right? Can I have a look?'
He'd heard references to this item, and others like it, multiple times in his travels, and they'd all come from demons. Now that he had a Millennium item here, Dante simply had to see it.

Yugi looked hesitant when the other man stopped and asked to see his puzzle. It was an uncomfortably common occurence that whenever he offered his puzzle over to someone, they tried to steal it from him... and he knew that in his current circumstances he would be dead in minutes without the Pharaoh to support him.
'Just stay wary, Yugi,' the deep calming voice assured. So Yugi lifted the object from around his neck, offering it over to the stranger.
"My grandfather brought it back from Egypt, said he felt it belonged to me," Yugi explained, faltering slightly as he mentioned his grandfather, who was now gone forever. "It was forged by Yami's father from the magics of the shadow realm... or so we've discovered thus far."

As he turned the Puzzle over in his hands, Dante raised an eyebrow. 'Egypt, huh? Figures. They'd be into all kinds of voodoo crap. But what you said about the Shadow Realm is interesting. Sounds almost demonic in nature. What do you know about the Shadow Realm?' he asked as he pushed open the, now rusted, gate into the national park. Dante gave Yugi back his Puzzle and drew out Ebony, giving Yugi cover as he held the gate open for the kid.

"Enough to know it's bad news," Yugi said as he hooked the puzzle back over his head, glad it had been returned to him safely. "It has phenomenal power... but it's evil. It's always looking for new souls to serve it."
He watched his feet carefully as he passed through the gate, surprised his companion actually appeared to be keeping him covered. He'd really expected this to be a 'you can tag along, but stay out of the way' deal.
"The pharaoh sealed a lot of its power away... but it's impossible to keep that sort of stuff locked away forever."
