The city was destroyed, and it had copped a lot of punishment from the initial invasion by the denizens of Hell. Smoke still poured out from long-burnt buildings, and for some reason, screams of anguish and pain could still be heard throughout the city. As far as Dante knew, he was the only one alive here, and he'd bloody let those bottom dwellers know that he wouldn't go down easily. They'd cursed and swore at him, telling him that they'd be back. Naturally, he'd scoffed at them, and they hadn't been back since.

Right now, however, Dante had his feet up on his desk, reading one of his old issues of Gun, a magazine that displays new firearms on sale and display, and also gives out tips on customisation. The Devil's Never Cry office had been left virtually untouched by the demonic horde, and so the only thing that gathered inside was calls from Lady and the occasional one from Trish. He was quickly growing bored, however, and threw the magazine down on the desk in front of him.
'Screw this, I need to do something!'
The devil hunter grabbed his pistols Ebony and Ivory and slipped them into their holsters on his back. He then grabbed the sword given to him by his father, Rebellion, and also placed it against his back. Finally, he exited the building and began walking through the streets, looking for some demon to toy with.

The city had been completely decimated, to the point where all that remained was a smoking ruin. The rubble was crawling with all manner of foul creatures, without a sign of human life to be seen. Into one of these buildings however, a young man had staggered, wounded and alone he'd curled up inside, heart broken.

Yugi was huddled in the ruined building, shivering with the cold. He'd seen some horrible things in his time... but none of it could match up to what he'd seen in the last few days. His abilities had only just kept him alive... but his friends... his grandfather and the game shop... they were all gone, and now he was alone.
"Do not despair Yugi.." a deep voice close by him said. "We will get out of this... we always prevail."
Yugi looked beside him to see the ghostly figure of his dearest friend standing there. The other man was taller, but he looked almost exactly like himself. He wished that Yami was more corporeal.. so that he might hug him to back that statement up.
"To what point, Yami?" he asked, wiping at his watering eyes. "Everyone's gone."
"I know Yugi... but you can't just give up," Yami insisted, squeezing his ghostly hand on Yugi's shoulder.
Just then they heard a noise... echoing footsteps.
"Someone's coming!" Yugi exclaimed with terror.
"Quickly Yugi, let me take-over... I'll protect you!"
Yugi followed the instructions immediately, placing his hands either side of the large pyramid-like necklace he wore. There was a flash of light and heat surged through his body. Yami now had control.

The Pharaoh stepped out from their shelter, deck of cards already ready in his hands as he spotted the approacher.
It has to be a Demon... there's no one left alive in this city...' Yami thought.
"Come no closer Demon, I will not hesitate to destroy you if you threaten us!" he announced loudly, his voice deep and full of authority.

Dante whirled towards the sound of the deep voice, pistols crossed over each other while he aimed at the source.
'Demon, huh? How about you show yourself, and I won't shoot you. Demon...the nerve of some people...' he added, muttering to himself. When he saw it was a person, he lowered his guns. Raising an eyebrow at the hair of this guy, he chuckled.
'C'mon man, do I honestly look like a demon to you, Spike? Think about it for a second. Perhaps you're a demon. After all, I have no idea what you're capable of, and as far as I know, I'm the only one that's even remotely human and alive around here.'
Dante shrugged, relaxed yet totally ready to show this bozo what he thought of him and his crazy hair.
He sighed.

'Maybe he's telling the truth?' Yugi suggested internally to his companion who currently controlled his body. Once upon a time he'd been afraid whenever the spirit of his puzzle took control, because of how violent he was capable of being... but now he trusted Yami 100%
Or maybe he's trying to trick us so that we let our guard down, Yami then countered, not the type to be trusting, he'd been betrayed too many times throughout his history, both thousands of years ago, and in his recent time with Yugi.
"My name is Yugi Motou, I worked in the Gameshop downtown," he called out, keeping his defensive stance firm.
'That wont really convince him we're not a demon...' Yugi hypothesised. 'Perhaps we could use the puzzle... that can show the true form of all things...'
'A good plan Yugi... however he'll know of my presence if we do this.'
'It's better than being dead!'
Yami of course agreed with Yugi's logic. "I can prove we are no demon, my Millenium Puzzle sheds a light that cuts away all disguises. You'll know the truth of us, and we the truth of you."
With that Yami placed a hand on the side of the puzzle and the eye in the center sent out a blinding flash of light.

When the light dropped down so that people could see once more, Dante would see TWO people standing atop the rubble where the boy had been previously. One was clad in an ancient robe, decorated by all manner of elaborate jewelery, he looked every part a king of great important. The other figure standing next to him was ghostly and see-through, but they looked like he had looked a moment before. Quite short for their age, dressed in blue, with cuffs around the wrists and neck. Both still wore the same pyramid shaped necklace.
"Satisfied?" the deep voice said again as the images dissipated and it returned to just the boy standing there.

Dante placed his hands on his hips and shifted his weight as he watched the show in front of him. When two of these spiky-haired guys appeared, he laughed and clapped.
'Well done! So you've convinced me not to kick your ass. Good job. Not going to attack me, are you? It won't matter either way regardless.'
Dante was kind of aggravated at this guy's way of talking. It was as if he held himself in such high esteem he should rule the world. Jackass.

Yami wasn't sure he appreciated the arrogance of this individual, they carried themselves and spoke as if they hadn't a worry in the world. He didn't care for it.
"I see no reason to waste valuable energy on you, provided you do not intend to harm Yugi."
'Maybe you shouldn't pratronise him Yami...' Yugi hissed in his head. 'Maybe i should handle this?'
'I will relinquish control when I am certain he will not harm you, Yugi.'

Dante scoffed and waved off what sounded like a threat.
'Relax, I wasn't gonna hurt the kid. But, y'know, a little fight now and then can be good, don't ya think?'
He smirked and folded his arms confidently.

The age old pride deep in Yami's heart began to burn when the other man challenged him.
Yugi... he began, but the other presence cut him off before he had time to finished.
You shouldn't waste our energy on him Yami... but I know you...'
'Wont back down from a challenge? You're right Yugi.'
"I accept your challenge!" he called, holding his deck of cards fanned across his body. "Allow me to begin!"
He closed his eyes and pulled a random card from the deck, holding it out in front of him.
"I summon the Chimera, King of Mythical Beasts!" he yelled. His puzzle flashed brightly, and light began to emanate from the card, there was a mighty roar, and suddenly a half-lion creature materialised before him.
"Do your worst!" he challenged.

((in the interest of having there be a threat to Yugi, it takes his energy to summon these monsters, so he can only summon so many. Also, he is harmed whenever a creature is destroyed.))

Dante huffed and whipped out his pistols, spinning them on his fingers before aiming them at the creature crossed over each other.
'Let's rock, kiddo. Bring on your big beasty.'
He leaped up into the air, flipped upside down over the beast and let loose with his pistols. The recoil sent him into a spiralling motion, providing Dante with the momentum to stay in the air as he rained hell on the creature.

With a shouted command from Yami the beast leaped clear of the rain of doom. It snarled angrily and leaped skyward in an attempt to rip the attacker out of the sky.
Yami watched his beast intently, monitoring its condition, making sure at the same time that he kept himself clear of the fight. The millenium puzzle could not be destroyed by normal means, so he had no fear for his soul, but he'd come to care deeply for his host that he would defend his vessel at any cost.

Dante stopped shooting and shifted himself in mid-air to right himself. Seeing the beast fly up at him, he seemingly disappeared in a blur, reappearing in a blur standing on the ground.
'Too easy!' The devil hunter holstered his pistols and pulled his sword from his back, throwing it up at the beast like a spear.

The monster gave a yelp like a dog as the sword pierced its heart. The creature then shattered into a thousand pieces and was gone.
On his vantage point Yami staggered, wincing in pain.
"Not done yet!" he yelled, pulling another card from the deck. He smirked when he saw what it was he had drawn. "We'll match blade to blade! I summon the Celtic Guardian!"
The knight appeared in a flash, charging its opponent immediately.

Dante caught his sword and clashed with the knight, chuckling confidently. He pushed against the blade of his foe and swung in a fast combo, slashing towards the middle, then high and low. He used the momentum of the swing to spin the sword around him at high to mid height, then did a full turn and slashed at the face of his opponent hard.

The guardian parried each of Dante's blows, and side-stepped the final blow that he aimed at its face.
"Had your fill of meaningless violence yet, stranger?" Yami called out as he directed the guardian to begin its own barrage of attacks.

Dante dashed away from the beast, Rebellion held lazily in his hand.
'Nah, I'm just gettin' started! That all you got?'
He did the universal sign for "bring it" to both the spiky-haired guy and to the creature in front of him, making sure to piss them off.
