Edgeworth looked a little surprised when Phoenix voiced some confusion as to why he was going somewhere 'quaint', the expression became his usual defensive frown soon after. "My idea of 'quaint' and yours are very different Wright. And what are you suggesting with that anyway?" His expression suggested he was offended, but there was an undertone to his voice that lacked any real hostility.

Phoenix shrugged "well, I've only really known you to go to the more high-class places. I don't mean that you seem too picky for something quaint it's just not what I expected from you...you surprised me with that" he answered, looking back out the window. "It's just strange hearing that you do enjoy some of the more simple things...you're normally so complicated to follow" he laughed "not meaning that in an offensive way, I guess I just can't think of better words to use!"

Edgeworth opened his mouth to reply, but ended up shutting it and swallowing thickly, unsure of what he really ever planned on saying. You can't just go admitting to Wright that your entire lifestyle is a protective mechanism... what would he think of you THEN? So the prosecutor remained silent for the rest of the drive, only speaking when they pulled up outside the cafe. "Here we are." He said, killing the engine and climbing from the car, pulling his briefcase out of the back seat.
Again, Edgeworth's idea of 'quaint' would not be what Phoenix was expecting... or more to the point, it would probably be EXACTLY what he'd initially expected of Miles before the quaint comment. The door was highly polish red-wood with gold-look handles, and as Edgeworth pushed it open the smell of expensive coffee would jump down his throat. The whole place had a very warm - and classy - feel to it, dark red-brown wood lined the walls, finished with a warm gold paint. The room was lit with golden lamp-shaded lights, giving it a dark but warm atmosphere.
Edgeworth lead his way across the regular tables and over to a booth on the far side, with its highly polished wood table and gold-washed leather couch. He took his seat and set his briefcase beside him, picking up a menu from the middle of the table. "The menu isn't expensive..." He mused absently, "This is the only place with cheap prices that I can stand."

Phoenix noted the high-clas appearance, which made him even more surprised when Edgworth said that the place wasn't expensive. "hmm...I think I get what you meant by 'quaint'; it has a really..." he paused to think of the right word "...homey sort of feel to it, doesn't it?" he sat down on the other side of the booth when Edgeworth picked up the menu, getting a menu for himself. He was surprised to find that the prices were, indeed, not that bad. It was Phoenix's sort of middle-priced place to go. He looked over the top of the menu to Edgeworth "how'd you come to find this place? I know I've not seen it before." he asked, looking around again, it was definitely nice here.

Edgeworth let a small smile cross his face when Phoenix observed how homely the place was. Edgeworth found there were very few places on the earth where he felt at home, but this cafe was one of those places. "My f-" He began, but stopped abruptly, his pleased expression faltering as he glanced to the side, focusing intently on the corner of their table. "I've been coming here since i was a boy." He remedied.
A waitress approached them then, looking very comfortable in her low cut collared top and tastful dress pants, none of this short skirt fetish maid crap that no doubt Edgeworth would disapprove of. "What can we get you today sirs?" She asked with a pleasant smile, her eyes widening as they fell on Edgeworth. "Mr. Edgeworth sir!" She exclaimed happily, scribbling something down on her notepad the moment he met her eyes, "It's been so long! We thought we'd lost our best customer." She brushed a lock of her hair with a delicate hand, the wedding band on her ring finger glittering in the warm light. "I suppose i have been out of town a little long." Edgeworth admitted, flicking a page in his menu before closing it and making his order. "I'll have my regular tea selection and one of your toasted chicken and cheese sandwhiches please."
The waitress nodded happily and scribbled the order down, "And what will you have sir?" She asked, turning her friendly eyes on to Phoenix. There was a slight look of surprise in his expression as she regarded the blue-suited man. she thought she recognised him from somewhere for a start, but she was more surprised - and over joyed - that Edgeworth had company for once. In all the years he'd been coming to her family's cafe he'd been completely alone - or at least... for over twenty years now in any case.

Phoenix couldn't help but smile when the waitress arrived. Even the uniforms worn here were more at home and welcoming than most places. He scanned the menu a moment before closing it and ordering a coffee and a salad sandwich. It was nice to not have hamburgers for lunch today, as it was practically tradition with Maya to have junk food for every meal of the day, save perhaps for breakfast. He didn't quite understand, at first, why Edgeworth had stopped abruptly then continued and altered what he had said, but after a moment of thought it clicked that he had been going to say that his father had brought him here...now he understood. "I guess it's the memories that bring you back here then? at least in part." he asked, looking absent-mindedly at a fine painting that hung on the wall next to their table.

Edgeworth shifted a little in his seat, suggesting he was rather uncomfortable with the conversation Phoenix had pursued, but as the waitress finished their order and disappeared out back to give it to the cook, he relented a little. "The service is good, the food is good and it's quiet here." Edgeworth said in a matter-of-fact tone, drumming his finger tips on the table, "It is a good place to come and unwind after a day at the office." He followed Phoenix's line of vision to the painting, feeling a slight warmth bubble in his chest. "Thankyou for coming." He added absently.

Phoenix still found that it surprised him whenever he heard Edgeworth say the words 'thankyou' but he found himself especially surprised at this time, because he wasn't saying them like they were choking him. He sounded genuinely grateful, something which no-one really heard from Edgeworth. Phoenix smiled and nodded "and thank you for inviting me to come" he replied, chuckling "and you're right, it is nice and quiet here." he agreed.

Edgeworth opened his mouth to speak again when the waitress reappeared, giving him his tea and Phoenix his coffee. She also set a plate of what looked like home-made biscuits in between the two of them. "Compliments from the chef." She said with a smile, hugging the tray she'd carried their drinks on against her chest, "Enjoy! Your meals wont be long." She then hurried off to serve another couple who sat across the room.
Edgeworth took a sip of his tea, sighing with soft contentment as he licked his lips, eyes closing for a brief moment as he enjoyed the exotic taste. "So... why'd you change your mind, Wright?" Miles asked, making it a little clear that this particular conversation had been bound to come up all day, "When we spoke last you were pretty intent on staying out of the court"

The question jolted Phoenix a little, he took a moment to reply. "I...I guess I just missed it." he replied after a long pause. "When you told me the courtroom was the place I belonged at first I didn't really want to believe it." another pause. "but you're right, I was happy when I was an Attorney, so in the end Trucy, Apollo and Maya convinced me that I should go back. I realise now that it was the right thing" he smiled again, taking a sip from his coffee, he needed the wake-up after that written exam "I suppose it was just something I couldn't bring myself not to go back to eventually." "why do you ask?" he queried, curious as to why Miles might want to know something like that. "it's an odd question for you to ask."

Miles shrugged, trying to pass the question off as nothing other than a mere flight of fancy. "You've just always been object to admitting you were wrong." He shrugged lightly, "It surprised me, that's all." He fell silent, picking up one of the biscuits and dipping it in his tea. He still seemed a little strange, his facial expressions completely blank. It was his eyes that held the small expressions that suggested something might not be completely right.

Phoenix went on to drink his coffee in silence again for a little while, before he noticed that look in Miles' silver eyes that said something was up. He was hesitant at first, but he put down his coffee and leaned forward to lean on the table, "Miles, is something wrong?" he asked, keeping his voice down so the few other people that populated the Cafe wouldn't hear.

Miles looked up from over the top of his tea cup and frowned slightly, finishing his mouthful before setting the cup down. "It's nothing Wright." He replied, looking up as the waitress returned and set their food in front of them. Edgeworth began eating the moment she departed. He finished several mouthfuls before talking to Phoenix again, "Apollo seems talented." He said absently, trying to divert the conversation.

Phoenix thanked the waitress and turned back to Edgeworth, he cursed silently. Edgeworth was beinf so secretive since he got back and Phoenix didn't like it "yes, he's definitely very good at what he does!" Phoenix agreed, smiling fondly "a prodigy for sure" he picked up his own sandwich and took a few bites. He paused after a moment and flashed Edgeworth a short, but noticeable, worried glance "you know, if something's bothering you, it's better to tell someone than keep it to yourself." he said, frowning slightly "I know you never like telling others when you're bothered by something, but it's not a good idea to just let it get at you for too long, alright?" he went back to eating, not really expecting Edgeworth to tell him anything.

Edgeworth stared at Phoenix for some time, obviously mulling over whether he should tell Phoenix his woes or not. In the end it seemed he decided not too. "I know Wright, you taught me that after all." He took a bite of his sandwich delicately, "And you should know that i would tell you if i thought that would help." He shook his head lightly and shrugged, "But it wont."
