It had been a shorter trip this time around, he'd gone back to Germany to visit Franziska, who had requested his company in her own subtle way. She was getting better at admitting she was having troubles, her perfectionism narrowing to a much more manageable level, though she still denied the need for anyone's assistance when it was actually offered and she had not demanded it herself. So he'd gone to Germany to help his adopted sister out on one of her cases, and he had to admit that she'd picked a difficult one, but he was content now that she was on the right track and the whole mess would be cleared up soon enough.
So now he was filing out of his plane with the small que of the other first class passengers. Usually he would have chartered his own jet like he usually did, but he just wanted to get home with minimal fuss. Though he hated to admit it, there were quite a few things he missed about this country already, it didn't take long for the homesickness to settle.
He walked down the hallway away from his plane emerging into the main lobby. It was quite late so the airport was far less populated then it would be during the day. He held his suitcase in one hand, while the other was tucked into the pocket of his wine coloured suit. He crossed the foyer with its hideous blue carpet to the baggage carousel, waiting patiently for his bags, grey eyes following all the luggage as it rotated before him.
Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth was back in town.

Phoenix strolled back and forth through the arrivals terminal...he'd heard from Gumshoe that Edgeworth was coming back, but so far neither him, Maya nor Gumshoe had spotted him.
"you said he'd be back at 12:00, Gumshoe; so where is he?" he asked, tapping his foot, his patience wearing somewhat. "you'd expect someone as tall as you could spot Miles' trademark pink and ruffles a mile away..." he complained, folding his arms and sighing. 'especially this late when the airport is less packed with people...' he added silently.
Maya rocked back and forth on her heels, humming to herself. "well, the plane could be running late, Nick" she suggested, pivoting on one foot to face Phoenix. Phoenix shrugged, looking around again for any sign of Edgeworth.
((you play gumshoe, mmk??))

"Sorry Pal..." Gumshoe murmured as Phoenix scolded him, looking down at his toes for a minute and chewing on the toothpick he had hanging from his mouth. "Maybe Mr. Edgeworth's wearin' something different?" He straightened again, scanning his eyes across the crowd again in search of the prosecutor. He'd been charged with finding his boss a cab back to his apartment, so he'd taken the opportunity to NOT book a cab, and rather bring Phoenix and his family along for the visit. They were in luck too, because Maya had made one of her rare trips down to visit Phoenix, so she was here to welcome Miles back too.
"He's not at the cafe." A voice said as a boy clad in a red vest approached them, sipping from his steaming cup of coffee. He looked exhausted, obviously having had a long day before coming to meet Edgeworth from his late flight. A smiling girl followed beside him, dressed in blue silk and a top hat. "Trucy and I made sure to keep a look out."
Edgeworth had no idea that there was a group waiting for him, and so he obliviously began his descent on the escalator down to the level that had the exit and the waiting lounges where families and friends would wait for someone to arrive. His eyes were peeled for a cabby with a sign bearing his name. He spared a brief glance at his rolex. Plane was late... baggage was nearly last. Guess that'll teach me to check in early... He frowned, I'll have to complain to the airline.

Phoenix looked over at his adopted daughter and her brother as they approached. He sighed as they reported that edgeworth wasn't at the cafe. He looked up a moment and caught, in his peripheral vision, a glimpse of dark red-pink on the escalator, his head flew up and he stared at the spot. Yep, dark grey hair, pink suit and a perfectly-tied cravat; no doubt about it...it was him.
A smile spread across Phoenix's face "Edgeworth!" he called, trying his best to wave over the crowd to him. He'd hoped his new -but still trademark- blue suit might catch his attention; the new suit? well he was going for his badge in a few days. Maya turned, happy to spot the prosecutor as Phoenix called out. "hey look! it's Mr. Edgeworth!" she beamed, jumping up and down to try and catch his attention, nearly clobbering Phoenix with a hand as she flailed her arms wildly in an attempt to attract attention from the prosecutor. "woah!! watch it, Maya! you'll give someone a black eye in a minute!" Phoenix scolded, narrowly dodging the potential knuckle-sandwich that swooped past his nose.

Edgeworth didn't hear the first call of his name, but he caught wind of the second one, after all, it would have been difficult NOT too, Maya was known for her loud mouth. He groaned inwardly when he spotted the group that waited for him. The imbecile Gumshoe obviously doesn't value his paycheck. He thought as he stepped off the escalator and headed through the large glass sliding doors that separated the escalators and baggage check-point from the waiting lounges. He was quite tempted to pretend he hadn't seen them at all, but the way Maya hopped up and down so exuberantly made it painfully clear that trying to leave without acknowledging them was not an option. He noted that there were several present whom he didn't recognise, but it was hard to miss Maya in her trade-mark robes, Gumsoe is his severely decrepit trench-coat and Phoenix's spikes.
That wasn't all he noticed about his old friend however, the last time he'd seen Phoenix their meeting had been quite short, the ex-defense attorney was far too bitter about losing his badge to host a proper conversation. That particular encounter had ended with Edgeworth informing the 'pianist' that if he really knew himself, he'd know he was meant to be in the courtroom. Edgeworth noticed now that Phoenix was once more clean-shaven, no longer sporting the horrid stubble he'd lazily let grow through before. He was also wearing a new suit. It was still cheap and nasty, and still the same shade of blue.
It was almost comforting to see Phoenix looking like his old self again. So now the prosecutor found himself approaching them, the expression on his face conveying a mix of annoyance and gratitude.
"Hey Mr. Edgeworth!" Gumshoe greeted merrily as Edgeworth approached, but his cheerfulness was short-lived as Edgeworth served him one of his icy glares and he was forced to recoil with a whimper.
Apollo had only met Edgeworth once before, a brief encounter in court. He'd been soundly defeated, though the client had been charged for something slightly different than the original charges in the end. So he remained silently standing beside his sister, draining his coffee in a desperate attempt to wake himself up.

Maya bounced in first, before Phoenix could even so much as flinch "MR. EDGEWORTH!!" she nearly pounced him with a hug but, knowing better than to do so, settled for a normal hug around the prosecutor's arm. "I haven't seen you in AGES!! I was beginning to wonder if you'd FORGOTTEN me!" she chirped, letting go of his arm and grinning, her little bun bouncing along with her happy little hops as if it were happy to see Edgeworth too. She stepped back to let Phoenix greet him then. Phoenix smiled at Edgeworth when Maya finally finished her greeting. "hey, Miles! how've you been? we missed you!" he said, offering a hand to shake with the prosecutor. He could see the vague impression in Edgeworth's eyes that he was somewhat surprised and yet happy about something. Phoenix guessed it. Last time he'd seen his friend he was still resenting his loss of his attorney's badge. Having gotten back to spiking his hair rather than covering it with a neon-blue beanie and making sure to shave he'd probably surprised Miles a bit. "how was the holiday? I'll bet it was good to get to see your home again, right?" he asked, making sure to leave out Von Karma, as he didn't want to remind Edgeworth in case the female prosecutor had left a not-so-pleasant message for Miles to pass on to him.

Edgeworth's jaw set tightly as Maya leaped forward, but after a few seconds worth of arm clinging his expression loosened and, with a surrendered sigh, he greeted the boisterous girl. "Hello Maya, I think i'd have a hard time forgetting you." It was one of Edgeworth's famous statements, the kind where you couldn't work out whether it was an insult or a compliment XD
The prosecutor then slowly turned his eyes on to his childhood friend, his silver eyes filling with a sort of reserved defensiveness. "Wright." He acknowledged, extending a hand to shake Phoenix's. "It was hardly a holiday, the wild mare kept me busy." He smirked, "How about you, Wright?" His expression changed a little, there was concern there, but a darkness that suggested he wasn't letting Phoenix forget their argument the last time they'd met up.
"Can you guys do this in the car?" Apollo chimed, covering his mouth as he yawned, "I really need to get a little sleep tonight or i'll fall asleep in court tomorrow."

Phoenix smiled again "heh, I wouldn't be surprised...she's a handful, she is" in 'she' he referred to Franziska. When Apollo spoke he looked over his shoulder to listen, smiling as he finished speaking. "alright, I suppose...it is late" he answered, nodding. He turned back to Edgeworth "come on, let's head home." Maya's face lit up "can we get hamburgers on the way home?! PLEEEEEASE~?" she begged, pulling her most adorable 'puppy' face. Phoenix shrugged "ask everyone else, I have no objections." he snickered after saying that before adding "pardon the pun"

Edgeworth let a groan escape his lips as Phoenix made his joke, dropping his forehead into his palm as he shook his head. "Grow up, Wright." He scolded, though there was the faintest of smiles twitching at the corner of his mouth.
"Alright we'll nip through a drive-through on the way back, i'll also drop Detective Gumshoe and Mr. Edgeworth home." Apollo said, producing a set of car keys from his pocket. "No need." Edgeworth said, shaking his head, "I can walk from Wright's. It's not too far." Apollo looked skeptical for a moment before he yawned again and shrugged. He didn't care, he just wanted to get home to bed. "Alright, come on." He turned to lead the way to his car.

Maya squealed in delight "YAY! HAMBURGERS!!!" she skipped to follow Apollo, almost sprinting to the car in her excitement.
Phoenix still felt rather deflated at the fact that Apollo could drive and he couldn't, but followed nonetheless. Maya called shot-gun hopping into the front seat automatically, while Phoenix politely offered to help with Edgeworth's bags; knowing, however, that the prosecutor would most likely decline. He could almost already hear the monotonic voice "I don't need help, Wright. I am perfectly capable of lifting a suitcase into the boot of a car" with not even so much as a 'thanks anyway' at the end.

"Wright." Was the curt reply that Phoenix got after a brief pause, almost sounding exactly as he'd been expecting, but then the tone of his voice changed, "I think i can manage putting a suitcase in the back of a car." There was another awkward pause as Edgeworth dodged Phoenix's gaze and lifted the bags into the back, shutting the boot when he was done. Then, slowly turning his silver gaze on to Phoenix's he offered another soft word, "Thanks for the offer." He'd not say anything for the time being, but he was already over-joyed to find Phoenix cracking lame brained jokes and behaving much more like himself, he was afraid that losing his badge had destroyed his dearest friend.
Apollo was already in the driver's seat starting up the car. It was what American's called a Mini-van, and it had "Wright Anything Agency" painted on the side in swirling letters, accompanied by motifs of magic craftily blended in with elements of the courtroom and several music notes. It wasn't the cleanest car, but Edgeworth couldn't bring himself to turn his nose up at it as he climbed in and sat beside Phoenix's adopted daughter Trucy, it had an almost comforting feel to it after all.

Phoenix stopped dead for a moment before casting a dumbstruck glance over his shoulder at Edgeworth "did he ACTUALLY just say 'thanks'?!' he asked himself, before shaking his head to clear it and getting in the back seat on the opposite side of Trucy, who had -as was like her- sat in the middle so she could be next to everyone. Such a kind girl, she was. Phoenix couldn't help but smile.
As soon as everyone was in the car, Maya urged Apollo to go "c'mon, c'mon, c'mon!! hurry uuuup~!" she complained, kicking her legs impatiently "BURGERSSS~!!" she demanded, giving the impression that, if she wasn't a human being, she might have foamed at the mouth in anticipation. Phoenix laughed at her enthusiasm; just like Maya to get so worked up over Hamburgers.

"It was foolish of me to think that being the Master of Kurain would have matured her a little." Edgeworth said dryly as Apollo started out of the carpark. Despite his dark tone there was the slightest hint of amusement - and perhaps even affection - on his face. He cleared his throat then, looking past Trucy and to her father, "So tell me Wright, how goes work?" There was the typical element of Edgeworth having a jibe in his question, but it was genuine all the same.

Phoenix was unable to hide his amusement when Edgeworth asked of work. He grinned and glanced sideways at him "oh, the exam's coming up in a few days" he replied, smiling "and of course, everyone just loves my skills on the piano" he joked, willing Edgeworth to recognise the hint he'd thrown in that he was going for his badge again. Maya heard this and giggled, she herself had been overjoyed to hear that Phoenix was going to get his attorny's badge back. She knew he'd pass, in fact she expected him to BLITZ it!
