It was Wednesday and Cearan had gotten a call this morning from Edgeworth telling him to wait at the gate at lunch-break, that way they could go to lunch together like promised. So here he was, waiting at the gate for Miles to come and get him, toying with some rope and rather expertly tying knots in it which his father had taught him...it was one of his ways of coping. He was looking forward to spending a while with Edgeworth, as he would finally have someone to talk to again, he really needed to vent right now, his temper was beginning to get the better of him and he was sure if he didn't vent soon he would end up smashing some poor innocent bystander's face in simply for their being there.

Edgeworth was running a little late, but only about fifteen minutes after the prescribed time he turned up at the gates of the school. "Sorry, Cearan," he said as he pulled up and wound the window down. "An interview ran overtime."

Cearan just shook his head slightly. "it's fine, I don't mind Mr Edgeworth" he replied, walking around to the other side of the car and getting in ready to go. "let's go, shall we?"

"Of course," he replied, waiting for Cearan to settle himself in before setting off. "How was school this week?" he asked, trying to attempt small talk as he always did.

Cearan grimaced. "tedious...and aggravating...I swear I'm about at the end of my patience, it's very difficult to refrain from hitting everyone who annoys me...the world hates me, I'm sure of it" he replied, as straight-forward as ever and yet at the same time leaving out details. A talent of his. "how's work?" he asked, his answer spoken.

Miles smirked a little, understanding the way Cearan was feeling. "There's a detective at the precinct who is under investigation for wrongful conduct during an investigation. They're borish, arrogant and just generally aggravating. When a member of the force looks bad, we all look bad." He shook his head. "Stay in school, it's more... enriching."

"a member of the police? wow...I guess even people upholding the law can sometimes go against it...thats...kind of a scary prospect, isn't it?" Cearan mused, toying absently with his sleeve. "well I'll probably stay in school since I don't know what I'm going to do, anyway, so no worries there" he shrugged, turning back to Miles again. "so how are things besides work?"

"You're always better of finishing school and keeping as many doors open as possible," Miles suggested diplomatically. "As for outside work, things are pretty quiet," he paused briefly, thinking up an explanation of his recent activities that wouldn't go dropping the reality of his relationship with Wright on the boy too suddenly. "Wright and I had dinner with some associates the other night, he seems interested in your progress as well."

Cearan seemed a little surprised to hear this. "he is? I would have thought he would have forgotten about someone like myself..." he remarked, he then smiled slightly. "it sounds like you two hang around together quite often" he said, in such a way that the statement was more like a question without actually being one (if you get what I mean). He seemed particularly interested in learning more about Phoenix and how important he was to Miles. He wanted to know more about their story, so he could understand why they were such close friends. ((LOLZ! *snicker*))

Miles fought away the warmth that was spreading into his face, not wanting to blush in front of Cearan. "Wright can be a bit of a nuisance," he explained, though it was obvious he didn't mean that in a bad way. "He shows up right when i have the most amount of work to do, and then drags me out somewhere so that i can't do it." He chuckled fondly and shook his head, turning a corner and into the carpark of their cafe. "He keeps me from working myself into the grave i suppose." He pulled the car into its space and turned the engine off. "I owe Wright enough, so I let him have his way a little."

Cearan laughed. "well, I suppose all the best kinds of friends are a pain at times!" he remarked, smiling. "so I guess that's partially why he's such a good friend" he said, seeming thoughtful a moment as he got out of the car with Edgeworth. "so how did you two become friends anyway? Mr Wright seems to look up to you a lot, is there a reason for that or is it just in his nature?" he asked, as he walked with Miles.

"Well..." Miles began softly as he opened the cafe door for Cearan. "We met in Grade school. We were in the same class. Wright was... a bit of the loner." He walked straight to their usual table and took a seat, not even bothering to pick up the menu. "My father was... he was a defense attorney," he continued to explain, only stumbling a little. "I wanted to be just like him one day... so when Wright came under fire for stealing someones lunch money I... I stood up for him." A fond smile spread across the Prosecutor's face. "We were friends until... until I moved to live with my Foster family in Germany. We didn't speak again for fifteen years."

Cearan smiled when Miles said he had defended Phoenix from a false accusation, though his expression changed to something more surprised when the prosecutor then mentioned they hadn't spoken for 15 years after. "...and even after that longer time apart, he still considered you his friend...? wow..." he seemed rather in awe at the idea that even though Miles and Phoenix had gone 15 years forgotten to each other in a way, Phoenix had still caught back up with Miles after that long and was even now still his closest companion...it was amazing how steadfast the man had been in remaining friends with the prosecutor...and how devotedly loyal he was.
