"Wright was always pathetically clingy i suppose," Miles said with his usual aversion to complimenting of any form. "Considering I would be dead if he'd given up on me, I am quite indebted to him." The waitress came over, immediately noting down Edgeworth's order, and asking Cearan if he was having the usual. "He is living proof that sometimes the things you thought you'd lost forever and were trying to learn to live without, come back when you need them the most. Not a certainty of course... but it's a nice thought none the less."

Cearan nodded to the waitress and thanked her before turning back to Edgeworth. "it is a nice thought...and it's true for a lot of things." he laughed then, seeming to find something rather funny. "like your car keys! just when you go and get new ones cut, you find your missing ones!" he remarked, laughing to himself. He was actually right, it DID work that way XD.

Miles smiled and chuckled with Cearan, finding he liked it when the boy laughed and smiled. He felt like he might actually be helping to ease the heartbreak for him, and that made him feel good. "Unless you're Wright, and then a lost pair of keys never show up and you have to call a locksmith to break into your own apartment." He smiled wryly, obviously getting a morbid amusement out of his love's misfortune. I really do talk about Wright too much... he thought privately "How would you feel about him joining us for lunch in future? It would be good for him to get out and eat some cultured food rather then order-in burgers or Chinese all the time."

Cearan snickered as Miles mentioned that Phoenix had lost a pair of keys and had to call a locksmith once. It was an amusing image. Then the prosecutor asked if Cearan would mind him joining them for lunch on Wednesdays and the boy at first seemed thoughtful, as though weighing the pros and cons, before he smiled and nodded. "sure, that sounds good, maybe I'll get to know him a little better!" he said, he'd obviously decided that while he assumed that the defense attorney knew little of his situation, he seemed like a nice person, so he wanted to get to know him better.

Miles smiled, glad that Cearan had agreed. "Have you made any progress with making friends at school?" he asked as the waitress put their usual drinks in front of them.

Cearan thanked the waitress before he turned back to answer Edgeworth's question with a slight frown. "not really...I've made up with some kids I'd scared before, but no friends yet...it's progress, I suppose..." he replied, seeming a little upset by the fact he hadn't made any friends since he moved to the school...he still didn't see why he couldn't have stayed at his old school...

"Any progress is good progress," Miles offered briefly, before taking a long swig of his tea, seeming pleased as usual. "Friendships are easily made and broken at your age, I wouldn't view it as too much of a reflection on yourself."

Cearan didn't seem entirely convinced, but nodded anyway, surely taking the information on board. "alright" he fell silent for a little while to have some of his drink, seeming thoughtful.

So the lunches continued much the same, only Edgeworth would pick Phoenix up from his office before heading to the school to get Cearan. They'd then go to the cafe and enjoy a quiet lunch together. They shared plenty of laughs, and Cearan and Phoenix got along splendidly. It seemed for a time that Cearan's life was picking back up, he'd made some friends at school and his foster parents had eased on the over-protectiveness.
Today Miles was almost wishing he had a lunch date, rather than this horrid staff meeting he had to attend. He switched his phone onto silent and entered the room, taking his seat at the large round table.

However, it seemed that despite how well things had been going for the past few weeks, the steady uphill climb was destined to spin in reverse. Today Cearan had gotten in a fight with his foster mother, and in turn his foster father had joined in to protect his wife, Cearan had gone positively ballistic and had ended up storming out of the house, set on get as far from them as possible. He went to his usual place, that quiet, forgotten little bench behind the shrubs at Hedgewood park. Out of instinct, he immediately withdrew his phone from his pocket and called a now all-too-familiar number, hoping he would be able to get the prosecutor at this time of day.

Edgeworth felt his phone begin to vibrate in his pocket and winced. All instincts told him to answer it, because it might be something important, but he knew better than to take out his phone in the middle of an important meeting.

Cearan continued to try and call Miles, before he gave up, deciding that he couldn't get through. He hung up and paused a moment to try and think before he tried calling the next number he had in mind: Phoenix. Maybe he would be able to get a hold of Miles for him, those two were really good friends after all ((kekeke)).
Phoenix didn't take long to answer, answering with his usual greeting at first until Cearan greeted him in return. "Hey Phoenix...it's Cearan" Phoenix had immediately smiled upon hearing from the boy. "oh! hi Cearan, good to hear from you, what's up?" he asked, leaning back in his chair to listen. "umm...well...I-I....had a bit of a fight earlier and I've been trying to call Mr Edgeworth but I can't seem to get through...I was wondering if you knew why and whether you could help me perhaps?" he asked, tentatively. Phoenix was a little worried to hear he had had a fight, but said nothing, just listening to what the kid had to say. "uh....I think he said he had a meeting today...maybe that's why you haven't been able to get him? you want I should harass him for you?" he chuckled, before tagging on the end. "he's more used to my pestering, so he'd be more likely to answer...he knows that I don't leave him alone until he answers" Cearan sighed in relief, sounding grateful when he answered. "thanks Phoenix, I appreciate it...will you let him know I was trying to call?" "of course!" Phoenix replied, toying absently with his fringe. "alright, thanks again, Phoenix, I owe you" Phoenix just scoffed and told the boy it was a simple task and that he owed him nothing. The Defense attorney, once he had hung up, then proceeded to contemplate the best method of greeting Miles when he eventually would answer, before he decided to wing it like usual and dialled his mobile.

Miles was getting sick of his phone vibrating in his hip-pocket, and was thoroughly regretting the decision to leave it on silent rather than turning it off completely. In the end he had to excuse himself in order to answer it. Needless to say he was less than pleased when he read "Phoenix Wright" as the caller ID. How SURPRISING, he snarled sarcastically as he pushed the answer button and raised the cell phone to his ear. "This had better be good enough to justify interrupting my meeting Phoenix Wright or I'll be giving you a hiding when i'm not in a public place," his voice was a quiet snarl.

Phoenix had just remarked that he'd taken his time answering. "sorry, Cearan called me saying he'd gotten ina fight this morning, spared the details. He says he's been trying to call you for a while and asked for my help..." he quickly explained, not seeming particularly worried about Miles' comment. "and just between you and me, he sounded pretty shaken when I spoke to him, I don't know what happened but he's quite worried over it, you might want to talk to him as soon as possible" he added, the initial statement making it clear he hadn't voiced this concern to the boy himself, knowing he wouldn't appreciate it.

Miles exhaled heavily, glancing towards the boardroom and then down at his watch. There was supposed to be another hour to his meeting... "Ring him back and tell him i'll be there as soon as I can wrap up this meeting," the prosecutor said briskly before wishing Phoenix goodbye and hanging up the phone. He then returned to the meeting, already devising a plan to get himself excused from it.
