She kissed her son gently.

Eden twitched ever so slightly and made a little whimpering noise.
"At least we know he can hear us," Zack said softly, reaching out to stroke the infant's face.

Eden continued to whimper softly despite his mother's attentions.
Zack watched the two with a fondness he'd felt once before, when he'd watched Aerith dote over Ashlynn and Ynyr. She was born to be a mother... and just watching her when she held their children filled Zack's heart with a warmth he would never have thought possible. He couldn't think of a moment when he'd felt happier... despite everything they'd struggled through, Aerith was now able to the fawn over their newborn son, who'd made it through.
"I might go down and see how Kunsel's doing soon."

"Sure," Zack replied. He stood, leaning over to kiss his wife and son goodbye, before he departed to visit his fallen friend.
He made sure to knock before he pushed open the door. Kunsel still appeared to be asleep, but Yuffie was sitting beside his bed, holding his hand.
"Hey Yuff," he greeted softly as he approached her and put a hand on her shoulder. It had been a while since he'd caught up with the ninja.
Kunsel was wired up to all manner of machines that monitored his heart rate, which was currently beating steadily. There was a drip in his arm, that no doubt provided him with some sort of heart-rate regulating drug. His friend still looked so sallow and sunken in the face. He really had gotten so thin and haggard.

Yuffie looked up suddenly to Zack, looking to be on the verge of sleep. She had been crying, that much was certain, but she gave Zack a faltering smile.
"I had no idea he was so sick..." she murmured, sounding ashamed.
She sighed.
"How's Aerith?"

"Aerith and the baby are doing fine," Zack assured her with a smile as he lowered himself down to kneel beside her chair. She looked completely exhausted.
"Kunsel's never been the type to complain... no one knew he was sick, so don't beat yourself up. Aerith and I were trying to look out for him but..."
He sighed softly, looking over at his bed-ridden friend. "There's no way to get him to see a doctor, no matter how bad he's feeling."

"I think I might kill him myself," Yuffie grumbled, looking back to Kunsel.
"What if he died? I'd have had no idea he was even ill..."

Zack took a hold of one of Yuffie's hands and moved so that he could look her straight in the eye, his expression sincere.
"He didn't die, Yuffie. There's no point dwelling on 'what if' scenarios. He's alive, and soon he's going to wake up and you'll be here for him. That's what's important."
He was speaking from experience, after what had happened to Aerith so many times before.
"I'm putting him on extended sick-leave... he can go back to Wutai with you and relax. This could be a sign that he needs to give up the DSS... he'll hate it, but I'm not going to endanger his life."
