((Grr... well I can't really think of anything elaborate for Cloud's phonecall, so I'll just skip to Kunsel waking.))
The first sound to filter through the hanging silence was a beeping, it was rythmic and steady, and mirrored closely the thump he could feel in his chest. It felt far better than the frantic irregular surging he remember feeling last. The pain was not gone, but it did not hurt half as much, and was instead just an uncomfortable heaviness in his breast. Slowly he let his eyes drift open, the harsh artificial white light over-head making him recoil slightly. The ceiling was white, and so were the walls, and the entire place smelled distinctly of bleach. He coughed softly, blinking a few more times to focus properly before he tilted his head to take a proper look around. He was in a hospital room, with a monitor keeping track of his heart, and a drip bag hanging from the frame beside his bed. His eyes traced the clear liquid down a tube where it entered his arms. He rolled his head the other way, and that's when he noticed someone was holding his hand. His eyes lifted just slightly, and caught the face of his love.
"Yuffie," he croaked, unsure whether she was asleep or not.

Yuffie lifted her head sleepily, blinking for a few moments before she seemed to register the sight before her.
"Kunsel!"
She stood immediately, bowling her chair over behind her, to lean over him and give him the best hug she could manage, kissing him gently. When she pulled back however, her eyes were filled with furious tears.
"I would punch you right now if the nurses wouldn't take me away for it! Don't you ever dare try to die without consulting me first. I'll kill you next time!!"

Kunsel winced slightly as Yuffie hugged him, and though he lacked the strength to raise an arm and hug her back, the desire to do so was strong.
"Sorry Yuff," he whispered, returning her kisses gently. "I've had some rough patches before... I was expecting it to pass."

Yuffie wiped stubbornly at her tears.
"You should have just seen a doctor!"
She stopped herself there though with a heavy breath, not wanting to put any more stress on his heart. She was very scared of his fragility...
"Zack will be really relieved to know you're awake..." she said quietly.

A look of concern crossed Kunsel's face then, and he shifted slightly.
"Is Aerith alright... what happened to the baby?"

Yuffie pulled her seat back up again, sitting down.
"Well, I don't know exact details..." she started, before smiling, "but Zack says they're both okay. And that Aerith wants to see you as soon as she can."

Kunsel gave a sigh of relief and sunk back into his pillow, closing his eyes for a moment and taking a few deep breaths before he opened them again.
"I'm glad they're alright... the idea that I might have... have killed her baby..."
He winced.

Yuffie took Kunsel's hand again.
"I'm sure they'll let you know exactly how everything is when they see you."
She leaned forward to press the 'Call Nurse' button.
"I'll get someone to tell Zack you're awake..."

"Mmm..." Kunsel mused in reply, giving Yuffie's hand a tired squeeze. "I'm sorry for worrying you."
The nurse arrived in only a few seconds, after all, Kunsel was a high-alert patient.
"Yes..?" she began at first, until she realised the patient was awake. "Oh! Did you need me to fetch anything? The doctor, something to drink, eat?" she offered.

Kunsel shook his head slowly in reply, eyes still closed. He didn't really feel much up to eating at present.
"I'm alright."
"OK miss," the Nurse agreed with a smile. "I'll go tell Mr. Fair that his friend is awake."
With that she turned to leave. It was a small hospital, so the staff were familiar with all the patients.

Yuffie gave a tired sigh, resting her head on Kunsel's mattress.
"You were very lucky Aerith was there. The doctor said you went into an arrest that should have killed you in under a minute..."

Kunsel didn't reply straight away, instead he mulled over his response quietly, knowing she wasn't going to like it. It was the truth after all.
"Aerith wont always be there... It's going to kill me eventually," he croaked, opening his eyes again and raising a tired hand to play with Yuffie's hair where she laid her head beside him.
