Maya welcomed the comfort from the ex-detective and returned the gesture gratefully. Trucy looked over at Edgeworth from where she stood with her brother. He was standing alone in the corner of the room, she couldn't help but feel sorry for him...Phoenix was his close child-hood friend, he was probably just as upset as the rest of them...
several hours passed before the Doctor walked in to the waiting room, looking around the room at the group of worried friends and family. Trucy instantly looked over at him, expectantly and Maya did the same. "what's the news?" she asked, wiping tears from her face.
The doctor sighed "He's stable, for now and the bullet has been removed. the blood-loss is substantial and the bullet punctured his lung, but he should recover given the proper care. He'll probably be here for quite some time" he replied, pushing his glasses up with a single finger.
Trucy sighed relief, leaning back on Apollo's shoulder again. Maya smiled weakly "that's a relief, thankyou so much!" she turned to Edgeworth, as if to ask if he had heard what the doctor said. She knew he was worried too.

Edgeworth had sat completely silent in his corner for the entire time they waited, his eyes glued to the floor, thoughts of fear rolling through his skull. He didn't look up when the doctor entered, but he was acutely aware of every word the professional uttered.
He felt nearly every muscle in his body relax when the Doctor said that Wright was stable, but still he didn't look up, he wanted to disappear from this room.
Apollo was overjoyed to hear the good news.
"Can we see him?" He asked, praying the doctor said yes, whether their father-figure was awake or not.

The doctor nodded to the red-clothed boy "he is still unconscious but you can go and see him, just remember to keep noise to a minimum" he replied, clipping his pen to his clip-board "I'll take you to his room, come with me"
Trucy moved to follow the doctor, gently tugging on Apollo's sleeve so he would stay close to her. Maya first went to where Edgeworth stood to get him to come with them "let's go Mr. Edgeworth" she said, keeping back a bit so as to not crowd the prosecutor in too much. She then turned to wait for him to come with them.

Edgeworth hesitated a moment when he heard Maya's voice, but eventually he looked up. Thankfully his tear session earlier had not left him bloodshot or puffy eyed, so no one would ever know that the demon prosecutor had shed tears for the first time in 20 years.
"No Miss Fey." He said, shaking his head, "You go. He'll want to see his family." He stood up, straightening his vest and hair, trying to seem as though everything was fine, "I... have an investigation to begin anyway." He excused himself and moved past her before she could object.

Maya went to say something but Edgeworth left before she could. She watched him leave, wondering what he meant when he said he had an investigation. She sighed and shook her head 'when will he learn that he IS family to Nick!' she turned around to follow the others down the hall.
It wasn't too far to walk, room E-7 (that's Ward E room 7) the doctor quietly opened the door and stood in the doorway as the group went inside to see Phoenix. He was very pale still and his breathing was still somewhat uneven from the damage to his lung, but other-wise he appeared okay.
Trucy stepped forward to kneel next to the bed, refraining from brushing his now loose fringe from his face. Maya stayed back at first, before she stepped forward around the far side of the bed to look at her friend who now lay unconscious in the hospital bed.

Apollo let Trucy go to her adoptive father's bed side, hanging back by the door himself. He was glad to see the regular rhythm that the heart monitor maintained. He was just thinking of leaning against the wall when a nurse entered with three chairs.
"You've been given permission to stay here for the night." She said with a small smile, "Normally we wouldn't allow it but... someone pulled some strings for you down at the main counter. Apparently their glare was almost as convincing as their words." She smiled and left the chairs there, excusing herself quietly.
Meanwhile Edgeworth, after convincing the nurses to let Wright's family stay the night, had started to make his way home. He'd got to the hospital in the ambulance with Phoenix, so his car was back at the prosecutor's office, which was a long walk away. Not to mention it had begun raining.
For some reason though, it didn't bother him at all, he walked out into the downpour without a second though feeling the cold droplets penetrating right to the skin. Without his suit jacket he was fast becoming cold, but still he did nothing.
It would have been easy for the prosecutor to hail a taxi, they passed him several times... but he just kept walking, head down as he walked through the rain. Wright could have DIED... and left behind his family... why would he risk throwing all that away for ME, i just don't understand.
How could he face Wright now? He was already indebted to him for saving his life once... and now he was again, it a far more direct sense this time. Every step he took was painfully slow, and every time his feet hit the concrete he felt the earth shudder, but he knew it wasn't really the earth shaking.
Even catching Shelly DeKiller... or his client... would not repay Wright for his sacrifice...

Maya and Trucy looked surprised for amoment when the nurse came in and explained that they were allowed to stay the night.
Maya smiled, the best she could muster at the time, when the nurse said that 'their glare was almost as convincing as their words'. 'Edgeworth...you try to hide it but we know that you really do care' she thought to herself. She thanked the nurse and picked up one of the chairs and transported it to the far side of the room before she sat down, looking over at the sleeping Attorney on the bed beside her.
Trucy took her chair to her place and sat, removing her cloak and top hat to get comfortable. The Doctor let them know where everything they might need was and then left, informing them that should help be needed they should just ring the nurses bell.

Apollo felt a small smile tug at his lips when he realised their mysterious assistance had to have come from Miles Edgeworth, he was the only man on the earth who could get his way through a strange mix of icy glaring and smooth sweet talking. The young defense attorney pulled himself up one of the chairs and sat back, waiting for Phoenix to open his eyes.
((You can pass however much time you like and have Phoenix wake.))

For quite some time, probably just over an hour, Maya stared out the window, patiently waiting for any signs of Phoenix waking up. Trucy was just starting to drift to sleep when Phoenix groaned and moved slightly. She looked up sharply, smiling happily when he opened his eyes.
"Daddy, you're finally awake!" she whispered, leaning forward in her chair so she would be more easy to see. "we've been so worried!"
Maya turned her head instantly, happy to see the dark-haired man conscious. "Nick, how do you feel?" she asked, laying her arms across her lap.
Phoenix blinked a few times before his vision came into focus; he could see Maya and Trucy on either side of him, but that was all. "Maya....Trucy...?" he mumbled, his voice barely a whisper, looking from one to the other slowly. He smiled, weakly, happy to see the two girls he had grown so close to. he looked around again, managing to spot Apollo, but Edgeworth was nowhere in sight. He winced as his chest ached, realising he was obviously in the hospital.

Apollo stood when Phoenix looked over at him, moving to stand at the foot of his mentor's bed.
"How're you feeling, Mr. Wright?" He asked, giving a gentle smile. He also noticed the slight confusion on his teacher's face and felt it his place to explain.
"You're in hospital, Mr. Edgeworth brought you here several hours ago an had us contacted immediately."

Phoenix looked again at Apollo, as he spoke, when he asked how Phoenix was feeling the Attorney paused a moment, looking away, before answering with a slightly slurred "been better". When Apollo mentioned Edgeworth, Phoenix looked back at him again, surprised "Edgeworth did...? where is he now?" he asked, a questioning look crossing his face.

"He stayed until the Doctor came and told us you were alright." Apollo replied, folding his arms, "He seemed pretty shaken, tripping over his words. He didn't say much the whole time he was here... and he left the moment we heard you were OK." A small smirk quirked the defense prodigy's mouth, "He was covered in your blood did you know?"

"he was...? I would never have thought Edgeworth to ever show he was shaken by something..." Phoenix frowned "did he say where he was headed when he left?" he asked, finding that Apollo's explanations were just confusing him more and more.
Maya answered this question "he only said 'I have an investigation to begin' then he left...it was odd, he definitely wasn't acting at all like himself..." she said, frowning "I suppose he was pretty worried about you, you are his friend, after all"
Phoenix nodded slowly, he couldn't be entirely sure, but he figured there was more to his worry than just them being friends...Edgeworth worried for his friends, sure, but enough to be obvious to others? surely there was something more to this.
"so...how long has it been, exactly?" he asked, realising how dark it was getting outside.

Phoenix looked up at the roof "that long...?" he paused a moment before he spoke again "Did Edgeworth catch DeKiller before he escaped? or did he manage to slip away again?" he suddenly asked, wanting to talk about something.
