Phoenix offered a slight growl of irritation. "yeah, sure...just a chest cold!...trust me, if ANYONE knows a cold from something else, it's me, and that did not sound like anything I've heard from a cold before!" he argued, as quietly as he could so as to not wake up Cearan, if the boy was even still asleep, which (miraculously) he was. "besides, even if it were just a cold, that's still worth worrying about, colds can develop into something worse, you know that, I know that you do! YOU told ME off for saying the exact same thing back not too long ago, I'm sure you remember" The man added, glancing over his shoulder at the clock to see what time it was, deciding that despite the fact it was still not that late he couldn't be bothered getting back to sleep, because he wanted to keep a watch on Miles just in case his cough acted up again.

Miles gave an exhausted groan of objection and flopped back into a laying position, still audibly wheezing as he breathed in. "if it has not cleared up after work tomorrow, I will go the doctors the next day," he offered, hoping Phoenix would be happy with the compromise.

Phoenix scowled again with another grumble of irritation, but after a moment he sighed and let up. "...alright...but if it gets any worse before tomorrow's up I'm dragging you to the clinic myself, okay?" He agreed, reluctantly. Even though the conversation was over, Phoenix remained where he was, sitting up in the bed, though he turned his gaze to the window, trying to convince himself that Miles was right and it was a simple cold. It seemed as though he was going to stay awake and not bother going back to sleep, whether that was out of worry or just that he wasn't tired was a mystery.

Miles rolled so that his back was to Phoenix. Only then did he winced with pain and massage his chest. It ached horribly, and he could feel another coughing fit just itching to be released. He closed his eyes and tried to will himself into sleep, but he was well aware Phoenix was still awake, and it was distracting him terribly.

Phoenix remained awake and staring out the window most of the night, long enough for him to ponder the meaning of life even, not that he did...eventually he grew tired of just sitting there staring into the middle distance, and turned his gaze to Miles -who was seemingly asleep, and he figured he would be, he had been sitting there that long- hoping that it was just a cold and that it would be gone in a few days...he didn't like it when Miles got sick, it was a rare occurrence and as such it really put the man down when he DID get sick...such was the way it went, strangely: get sick all the time and it's never too bad and you get over it quick, get sick rarely and it was always ten times worse and harder to get rid of than a blowfly on a hot day.

Edgeworth slept restlessly for the rest of the night, but soon enough his morning alarm was waking him up to get ready for work. He sat up slowly, wincing as his chest throbbed in protest. He turned slowly, realising that Phoenix was awake next to him. There was an instant frown on his face. "Did you sleep at ALL?" he demanded irritably.

Phoenix jumped slightly when the alarm went off and very quickly turned his gaze out the window so Miles didn't see him staring at him, when the man spoke, he glanced back again, offering an indifferent shrug in reply to his question. "no." he said simply, turning his gaze back to the window. "it's not like I was tired at all...besides, I don't have a case at the moment and I've pretty much done all of the paperwork I have...I don't need to be entirely awake to finish up what's left anyhow...it's all signing documents and organising files and such, nothing that really requires much thinking." he added, flicking a bit of fringe out of his face. "If I finish up early enough today I might pay you a visit to make sure you're okay...you don't tend to get sick often, so it worries me when you do..." he said, frowning slightly.

Miles didn't look particularly pleased, but he didn't bother chiding Phoenix, as he knew it was simply wasted effort. "As usual, Wright," he snipped, being quite abrupt. He was in a bad mood, that was for sure. "You are over-reacting to something minor." As if to spite him, he felt a cough rattling in his aching lungs, but he fought it off so that it didn't make his point moot. He swung out of bed and moved across the room to their bathroom, where he began his usual morning grooming routine. Once that was done, it was the wardrobe he headed to next, fussing about with his collection of similar looking Magenta suits.

Phoenix wasn't so sure it was just minor...but he made no argument, for a few minutes he remained seated on the bed, before he got up, going to spike his hair back as usual before going to the closet himself, where Miles was nearly done, by then. As soon as he was dressed he headed out into the kitchen, wordlessly, contemplating why it was he just KNEW it was something worse...he did't even have any basis, not even a reason that made no sense...he just KNEW and that was it. It was odd, but he dismissed it just thinking that it is true that sometimes certain people are just able to preemptively know about events...instinct, intuition, blind luck, whatever it was it wasn't uncommon, so he ignored it and went about preparing his breakfast.

Miles had gone to the bathroom to adjust his cravat, and it wasn't until he heard the bedroom door close behind Phoenix that he coughed, as his lungs had wanted to do since he woke up. He kept them as light and quiet as possible to avoid alerting Phoenix. Five or six coughs later, the itching pain in his lungs settled back into an uncomfortable heaviness, and he made for the door. He went straight to the kettle as always, instinctively making Phoenix a coffee, though he got himself a herbal tea that he'd got his partner to help him fight off his quite frequent flus.

Phoenix wanted to say something since it was rather silent in a strangely uncomfortable yet not at all awkward way, but he wasn't sure what he should say, and simply spent most of the time trying to think of something to talk about and coming up blank. He was interrupted from his thoughts, though, when he heard a door closing in the hallway, indicating that Cearan was up about.
The boy walked into the kitchen looking about as tired and sleepless as yesterday (and the day before, and the day before that, and before that...). He said his usual greeting to the two men, receiving a warm smile and a "Good Morning, Cearan!" from Phoenix, as he walked to the cupboard to work out what he was going to have for a quick breakfast before his usual routine of getting ready for school.

Miles had focused his attention solely on his tea for some time, but when Cearan entered the room he dropped the mug from his lips to offer him a greeting. He was cut off however by another small fit of coughs, which -just as before - he fought to keep as soft as possible, covering his mouth with his hand. When it passed he excused himself, taking a large swig of tea before attempting his greeting again, successfully this time. "Good morning, Cearan."

Phoenix frowned over his shoulder at Miles as the man coughed, looking rather worried for the briefest of moments, before the expression was gone again, for the sake of not seeming paranoid. Cearan also frowned as Miles coughed, folding his arms and tilting his head in an anxiously curious manner. "Mr Edgeworth, are you okay?" he asked, recounting how much trouble his two carers seemed to attract. It was almost staggering how much of a trouble-magnet the pair made.

"I'm fine," Miles insisted, fighting to keep the angry impatience he felt out of his voice. Cearan didn't deserve it after all. "Just coming down with a cold." With that said he gulped down the last of his tea and stood, moving over to the sink to wash his tea-cup. "The two of you ought to focus more on yourselves. I hope you have pleasant days." He turned from the sink and dried his hands, ready to head to work now. "I'll see you all this evening."

"okay, then. See you later, Mr Edgeworth!" Cearan called as the man left. "see you when you get home, Miles! take care of yourself, okay?" Phoenix said, as usual he was forever worried for his love's safety. Strange, seeing as he was just as danger-prone. Phoenix finished up eating before he checked he had everything for the day and headed off for his office, calling a goodbye back to Cearan as he left. Cearan, as always, packed his school bag and shut Pess in the laundry before leaving, beginning his usual meander to school...he purposefully left FAR earlier than he needed so as to be able to walk slower to school and enjoy the crisp, freshness of the morning air for longer.
((sum up the day, ya?))
