"This is why I'm such an irritable old man," Miles reasoned as he climbed into the driver's seat. "Wright likes to make sure i have a constant headache." The smirk on his face showed it for the joke it was. Though there was some truth to it, Phoenix did often make Miles feel frightfully old, because there was no way he could match his energy. "Is anyone hungry?" he asked as he waited for them both to buckle in.

Phoenix grinned brightly as he clipped his buckle in the lock. "heck yeah! I'm starving!" he replied, stretching slightly. It seemed he couldn't have cared less for the joking insult, as he made no reaction to it. Cearan smiled and nodded in reply to Miles' question. "yeah, grabbing a bite to eat sounds pretty good to me" he replied, as he buckled himself in. ((hmmm....I just realised something....they walked here I think XD let's just say they drove here >_> it wouldn't be convenient for them to walk home with all Cearan's stuff ))

((So they did XD woops.))
Miles rolled his eyes at Phoenix and sighed. "I'll go through a drive-thru somewhere..." he relented, "and to think i didn't eat half this much junk food before marrying you." He directed this comment at Phoenix.

Phoenix laughed at that. "that's only because you rarely ate unless someone thought to bring you something, you were always too busy working! besides, I'll have you know you're the one who decides on the junk food, I don't remember all that many times that I've actually said anything" he pointed out, absent-mindedly toying with his fringe, his gaze remaining trained on Miles for a moment before turning to gaze at the sky out the window. Cearan sat quietly in the back seat, looking out the window and wondering to himself what it would be like living with these two.

So they went through a drive-thru at the local noodle-box place, and after Miles made it firmly known that he didn't like people eating in his car, they continued on their way home. Now he was pulling into their spot in the under-cover parking, and climbing out stiffly. His leg was giving him hell the whole drive back. Once he was securely balanced with his cane taking most of the weight off of his bad leg, he turned to wait for the others to get out.

Phoenix already knew about that and that there were occasions he relented that rule, Cearan took the knowledge on board for future reference. Upon arriving home, the two got out of the car, Phoenix moving to open the boot and pull Cearan's bags from the back, before shutting it, he and the boy then picked up the bags and proceeded to follow Miles to the lobby. Cearan was rather awed at the grandeur of it, but kind of expected it considering the man's car and suit quality.

Miles' limp was quite bad as they exited the elevator and headed down the long and splendid hallway towards their apartment. He was muttering curses the whole time as he looked for the key and unlocked the door. He then stepped aside so the Phoenix and Cearan could enter first.

Phoenix let Cearan go inside first, following behind him, though he stopped to wait for Miles. "you alright?" he asked his love, noting how bad his limp was and how he quietly mumbled curses under his breath. He moved to walk beside Miles to the main room, planning on getting his love some heatpacks warmed up for his bad knee once he had put Cearan's bags away in his room for him.
Cearan was wandering interestedly in the main room, seeming particularly interested in the pair of paintings on the wall and the amazing view he could see when he pulled aside the curtains slightly.

"I'm fine, don't fuss please," Miles insisted, shrugging off Phoenix's concern. "Make sure Cearan is comfortable." They moved into the lounge where the boy was enjoying the view, and Miles lowered himself onto the couch for a brief rest. "Nice view, isn't it?" he asked.

Phoenix frowned, still planning to get Miles some heatpacks once he was done showing Cearan his room.
Cearan turned when Miles spoke to him, nodding surprisingly enthusiastically. "yeah! how many floors up are we?" "nine" Phoenix answered, putting down the bag he was carrying and leaning on the back of the couch, casually. "shall I show you your room, Cearan?" he asked, smiling warmly. The boy nodded and moved to pick up his bags and follow Phoenix down the hall. The defense attorney quickly recited the rooms to him as he walked, pointing to each door as he spoke, remembering when Miles had done the same for him. "and this is your room, it used to just be the guest room, so the bed is a fold-down one at the moment, I'm sure Miles will sort that out, though, knowing him for the perfectionist he is" he said, putting the bag he was carrying down beside the closet. "he won't want you sleeping on 'something as mediocre as that'" he said, adding '6699s' as he said the last statement, quoting what he knew Miles would say, his smirk indicated it was all in good humor though. "that control on the wall works the air conditioner and curtains, just so you know." he said, pointing to the little remote hung in a bracket above the bedside table. He then looked up at the air con above him "and it's reverse cycle, so if you get cold it'll heat up the room for you, too" he made sure to mention there was a balcony outside the large glass doors and to be careful because the tiles were slippery when wet. "and you won't run out of clothing storage...or any kind, for that matter, I can tell you that" he remarked, chuckling to himself. Cearan looked around the room as he put his bags down with the other one, seeming impressed by the size. "wow...Mr Edgeworth wasn't kidding when he said it was spacious, was he?" he remarked, turning back to Phoenix with a smile. "and the heating works here, too, unlike school...god it gets cold in school..." he frowned slightly, before the normal expression returned. "is there anything else I need to know where it is?" he asked, to which Phoenix nodded and gestured for him to follow. "kitchen's over there with the secondary bathroom, you won't really need that one, though" he then turned to the door he was standing next to; the laundry. "and I believe a certain canine is looking forward to meeting you" the dog could be heard whining quietly in excitement on the other side of the door. He informed Cearan to stand back before opening the door and promptly being tackled to the floor by the usual flying ball of reddish-brown fur. "ack! okay, it's good to see you too, Pess! c-can I get up now?" he laughed, receiving many slobbery dog-kisses to his face before the dog let him sit up to greet her with a ruffle of the fur behind her ears. She wuffed happily, looking at Cearan, her tail wagging excitedly. The way she waited for Phoenix to introduce the boy was a clear indication of how well trained she was. "this is Cearan, he'll be your new brother, Pess! why don't you say hello?" he said, the dog jumping up and running over to put her paws up on his chest to give him a quick lick to the cheek before dropping down to sniff at him and learn his scent. Cearan laughed when Phoenix was tackled to the floor, having found it rather amusing, when the dog came to greet him with a kiss he couldn't help but laugh happily, kneeling down to pet her gently. "hey there, Pess! it's nice to meet you!" he greeted the dog, ruffling the scruff of her neck. "you're really cute, you know that! man, you must take care of her, her fur's so soft!" he remarked, knowing that soft fur meant a well looked after dog. "Franziska refers to her as Miles' 'precious mutt' if that's any indication of his affection for that dog" he chuckled lightly, stiffly standing up, his chest a little sore where she had landed on him, seeming perhaps a little winded too. "I'm rather fond of her, myself, so between the two of us, we pamper that animal" he smiled warmly, watching the boy pet the Shiba Inu. He really did love dogs. As the boy stood, Pess then woofed again softly before she trotted off the find Miles, to greet him home.

Miles was still on the couch, massaging his knee in an attempt to alleviate the discomfort. When Pess trotted over he greeted her happily, scratching her behind her ears just as she enjoyed. "I hope you were nice to Cearan, Pess," he said in the usual fatherly tone he adopted when talking to the canine.

Phoenix had disappeared off to the kitchen to do as he had planned, also turning on the kettle. Cearan had wandered over to Miles, watching him with a slightly concerned look on his face. "Mr Edgeworth, you were limping before, did you do something to your leg?" he asked, not actually informed of Miles' injury. Phoenix emerged from the kitchen briefly, calling to Cearan if he wanted a hot chocolate or a tea or something. Cearan asked politely for a hot chocolate and Phoenix nodded and went back into the kitchen, the boy then turned back to Miles, smiling as the dog looked at him with a wag of her fluffy tail. Phoenix busied himself making a tea and two hot chocolates, having not been i any need of a coffee at the time. At about the moment he finished making the drinks, the heatpacks finished heating, he moved to retrieve them before also grabbing Cearan's and Miles' drinks, he'd return for his in a moment. When he emerged from the kitchen, he first passed Cearan his drink with a warm smile before handing Miles his tea and the heatpacks, saying that he thought he could use them right now, he then moved back to the kitchen to retrieve his own hot chocolate, returning with the mug in hand and stopping to lean against the back of the couch, rather than sit.

Miles wasn't surprised by Cearan's question, after all he didn't really need to be that observant to have noticed. "an injury incurred during one of many dangerous escapades Wright and I have found ourselves in over the years," Miles explained, murmuring a thanks to Phoenix as he took his tea and the heatpacks, which he packed around his knee. He was always deeply touched by Phoenix's care for him, doing what was right for his health even when he didn't ask for it.

"ah..." Cearan nodded, seeming a little curious. "like what sorts of things?" Phoenix quickly cut in here, knowing that a lot of these memories were painful for both of them. "a lot of things, predominantly revolving around one of us getting in trouble and the other falling into the same snake-pit, so to speak" he said, though this only seemed to make Cearan more curious. Phoenix turned to Miles to seek his opinion on whether he was willing to talk about this sort of things or whether to just skim the less painful memories as examples and just say they'd been through worse.

Miles hesitated for a moment, but then decided that those things were in the past, and that dwelling in the past had nearly ruined him before, so he wasn't doing it again. "Well, this particular incident was an earthquake accident," he explained, a thoughtful look on his face. "It was a few years ago now... you may remember it though. There was a large earthquake and the subway collapsed. I was in the subway at the time and I was trampled in the panic, they had to reconstruct my knee." He winced at the memory, leaving out the part about his major fear of earthquakes, and his essentially catatonic state when they finally dragged him out of the rubble, for the time being
