"You know me," Miles mused as he leaned against Phoenix and polished off his glass of vodka. "Worst case scenarios are my specialty... so i assume they'll happen."

Phoenix just smiled warmly and put his arms around his love's waist. "I guess that's true...but still" he gently kissed Miles' cheek. "just have a little faith"

"I do," Miles replied softly, closing his eyes to doze off a little.
((feel free to skip to Cearan being told that someone is coming in to meet with him))

((yup )) Cearan was sitting quietly on his bed, the curtain drawn, in the room he shared with some abandoned boy named James, reading a book and wondering how long it would be before someone came to take him in...James was sleeping in the bunk below him, snoring softly, so he didn't have anyone to talk to right now. He heard a quiet knock at the door and after a moment their caretaker came in the room, making sure to be quiet, as James was rather the lazy one and was just about always asleep, so she always made sure to be quiet just in case. "Cearan?" she called, softly, waiting until the boy pulled back the curtain slightly, to look at her. "there's someone who will be coming to see you, they'll be here in an hour"Cearan looked perhaps a little surprised. "who was it...?" he asked, marking his book and setting it on his shelf beside his bed. "I don't know his name, but he said he wanted to come and talk to you" she said, reciting what she had been told. She wasn't the one who answered the phones. "alright...thanks miss Sarah" he said, with a nod. Miss Sarah left, quietly, leaving Cearan alone with his thoughts and James' snoring. 'an hour, huh...? guess I'd better get ready' he thought, sighing as he climbed down from his bed to get changed...most kids, including him, just stayed in their PJs in their rooms, as a lot of them spent their days sleeping when they weren't at school.

Edgeworth was rattling with nerves as he waited for Phoenix to finish getting ready. They'd both decided that their usual suit get-up would be far too rigid and formal, and the last thing they wanted was to intimidate their possible new charge. "Come on Phoenix, we'll be late!" he called, the nervousness making his attitude a little edgey (lawl).

((har di har har )) Phoenix was slightly amused by how nervous his love was and after finishing putting on his shoes he wandered out to where Miles was waiting, flicking the loose strands of his fringe out of his face. "we're not going to be late, Miles, we have plenty of time, and besides, being a little late makes you seem less all about work and perfection" he shrugged, grabbing his phone and wallet as he walked to the door to get his jacket from the hook, putting the items in his pocket whilst pulling his gloves from where he kept them in said pocket. He then waited for Miles to catch up to him before following the man out. ((note that I checked the timing, it will be late Autumn/early winter now ))

Miles gave Phoenix a subtle warning glare when he joked about his perfectionism and work-ethic. Though the Prosecutor had improved drastically, he was a little touchy about that particular topic. He readjusted his coat and grabbed his cane, his knee had been giving him a little trouble since the cold weather had set in. For its benefit they'd decided to walk to the orphanage, which was not that far from here. Once they were out on the street Miles linked arms with Phoenix and they started on their way.
((You can have them arrive. The Orphanage owner would take them into an interview room before going out to get cearan))

((yep )) Phoenix and Miles had arrived not long later, pretty much perfectly on time, despite Miles' worries. The young woman at the desk looked up with a smile as they arrived, asking them if they had an appointment, to which Miles had quickly responded. The girl nodded and asked them to wait a moment whilst she went to find the owner of the home. When she returned, she had a kind-looking middle-aged lady with her, who greeted them warmly and asked them to follow. She lead them to the interview room, letting them know she would just be a moment as she had to go and get Cearan from his room. Cearan was changed and ready now and appeared to be trying to fix his closet door, which hadn't closed properly when he was finished getting changed, so he was currently attempting to re-angled the hinges so it would shut right...he guessed the last kid who had THIS closet had been particularly upset, it looked like it had been physically damaged, rather than just gradual breaking from age. There was a soft knock at the door and the owner of the orphanage stepped in, quietly. "are you ready, Cearan?" she asked, smiling softly at the boy, who nodded in reply and after making sure the screw for the hinge was tight again, put the screwdriver he had smuggled back to his room on the desk and skittered out to follow her to the interview room.

Miles was trying to sit as still and calmly as possible, but the way he rocked slightly in his seat and had his eyes locked to the table-top made it obvious he was anything but calm. As he heard the latch on the door opening one of his hands sought to hold Phoenix's beneath the table, seeking his unerring calm and support.

Phoenix jumped slightly at first but just offered Miles a warm, comforting smile, before looking up as Cearan arrived. The boy looked rather surprised to see them there and had to say a rather rushed goodbye to the caretaker as she left, because of being left speechless for a second. He then turned back to the two men. "what are you two doing here?" he asked, sounding rather confused as to why they would be here.
Phoenix laughed lightly. "yeah, nice to see you too, Cearan" he joked, offering an amused grin as the by sat down on the other side of the table to them. "o-oh! sorry, it IS good to see you, Phoenix, Mr Edgeworth." he turned to Miles then. "but what are you guys here for? was there something you wanted to talk about?" Phoenix snickered slightly and glanced over to Miles, seeing as it was really his story to tell. It seemed Cearan was completely clueless.

Miles tripped over his words several times as Phoenix directed Cearan's attention to him for the explanation. It was one of the first times in the well-spoken prosecutor's life that he couldn't think of the words to say. Smooth-talking his way through situations had always been one of his specialties, but now he wasn't so sure, he didn't feel in control of this situation... sort of like that first time he'd been derailed by Phoenix in a court case. After several almost never-ending moments of awkward silence with his jaw flapping inarticulately, he found his voice. "I have... been thinking, over the past few weeks... and in light of recent events I find myself coming to a conclusion that-" he stopped abruptly, frowning to himself. Why was he having so much problems saying what he wanted to say, and lifting his gaze up from the table to meet Cearan's? He inhaled deeply, forcing himself to look up and gather his thoughts more completely. "What I am trying to say, Cearan... is that I think you'd be happier if you... came and lived with me," he coughed slightly, out of awkwardness. "I work long hours so I wouldn't be over-bearing, and I... I understand a bit easier what it is you need, you'll be able to look after yourself... but I would be giving you a roof." Underneath the table, his hand tightened around Phoenix's. Considering how tightly he clung to his love's hand, not half the nerves showed on his face.

Cearan nearly fell off his chair in surprise. "wh-what?!" he hadn't expected that from the prosecutor at all. "u-um...w-well I..." he seemed as much lost for words as Miles. All the while, Phoenix was sitting quietly, trying not to let his expression show that Miles was hurting his hand slightly, as it would be a giveaway, he wanted Miles to actually explain it first. "u-um...I suppose you do understand me better...b-but a-are you sure, Mr Edgeworth?"

"Quite sure," Miles replied, there was a small degree of confidence returning to him now. "I've given it a lot of thought." He glanced at Phoenix, just to let him know that he was about to explain the rest of their explanation. "Though there is... something you need to know first," he said, feeling his mouth go dry. "Wright and I have... not been entirely honest with you..." He glanced at Phoenix, seeking his support verbally here.

Phoenix didn't seem particularly thrilled to admit it himself, but he was less inclined to lapse into stuttering than Miles, so it was better that he say. "well...you have already established that we are quite close...and you aren't wrong about that, but...well...say we're a little closer than you thought..." he said, after a short moment's procrastination. He seemed a little unsure about admitting it, but at least he said it...sort of. "...uh..." Cearan didn't entirely seem to follow his train of thought for a moment, before he noted that the defense attorney was blushing slightly, as was Miles, and then he obviously put two and two together. "o-oh! s-so you two are..." he glanced between the two of them, looking rather shocked to hear this particular news. Phoenix just nodded his reply, by now blushing rather heavily. "um...okay...wow..." he seemed to be taking it alright, or at least trying not to sound positively dumbstruck. "uh...yeah....kinda' awkward, huh...?" Phoenix replied, grinning stupidly, as was his way. "w-we would have said something earlier, but we weren't sure how you would react, so..." Cearan was stunned into silence, not entirely in a bad way. "well...one of my friends from my old high school was uh...that way, so...that isn't so bad I suppose....but...really? I mean really, really?" he asked looking perhaps confused. "neither of you seem at all..." Phoenix immediately cottoned on to what Cearan was implying and flinched slightly. "there's a thing called a stereotype, kid...things don't always work like that, you know!" Phoenix immediately defended, always having been rather sensitive about being called 'feminine'. He folded his arms in a slightly miffed manner, letting go of Miles' hand as he did.

Miles seemed to have finally found the amusement in this situation, the awkwardness that had descended over him at first ebbing away into a humorous confidence. "Don't let him fool you Cearan," Miles joked, giving a wry smile as he glanced sidelong at Phoenix, finding further amusment in his 'offended' posture. "Beneath his harsh stereotype-crushing exterior is a mushy romantic who goes to pieces when he sees a kitten." He cackled deviously. "Stereotypes aren't all fiction." He anticipated a slightly defensive reaction from Phoenix, but he was already prepared for that. "So... provided mine and Wright's... angle, doesn't disturb you, you're welcome to come live with us. I own a large apartment up-town and we make quite a nice wage between us, so you'll be well catered for."
