Squall finally registered that Seifer had baited him and gave him drollest stare he could manage. "That might be the case, but having them makes you stronger. Or have you forgotten that in your ever-onward quest for your dream?" The last sentence was said with dripping sarcasm in a way that made it sound normal, and Squall promptly ignored Seifer after that. Upon hearing the details of the matches, he had to say he was relieved, though he didn't voice his appreciation. While the games themselves were tedious, he understood clearly that if he failed, he wouldn't be going home. Everyone would be trying their hardest, and damn him if he didn't do the same.
The news of an all-out melee surprised him though. "A free-for-all? If you were going to have us all fight each other, why bother giving us teams?" Squall frowned slightly, perturbed. This first match was a snag in the already dicey situation, and he didn't like it. He could see people working together either way, unless they were punished for helping out when they should be at each others throats.

Seifer groaned when the announcers declared the first round to be a free for all. It sincerely pissed him off to be put off-guard and then put back on guard again so suddenly. These guys were assholes. Cussing, he gave them a disgraceful gesture using his whole arms, to extend the point. He watched as the blue-coated Vergil slunk past; his expression almost ecstatic. Apparently; that man was looking forward to a free for all, over any of the team events. He decided to call out for reasons even he himself didn't understand. "Don't kill everyone. Save some points for us, blue!" The look on Vergil's face could only be described as volatile, as he jerked to a halt and faced him in response. "If you want a kill: you better hope I'm not there. Or you'll get nothing, human." he responded coolly.
Seifer paused a moment in confusion. Was he not human too? Because if he wasn't...did that give him an advantage over the other competitors, or not? Pulled from his reverie by Squall's malcontent, he shrugged.
"Hey, if they want us to start out all on all, we can't do anything about it. And my dream is my dream. I'll be willing to tell you about it one day. But first; let's get through round one. Hopefully round two will be a team game, and we can try a bit of team-work then. Yeah?" he suggested to Gold Team. But before he separated from his team-mates, he looked to the kid; Neku without judging him as a child - at Balamb Garden, the youngest enrolled student was 13, for a combat role - and responded to his earlier question about Seifer and Squall's combat capacity.
"Using GF Junction: we can cast a variety of magicks, provided we have a stock; and even summon the GF. I've got a few GFs junctioned, but a mediocre spell stock. I can cast Fira, Blizzara and a few enhancers. Nothing more." he said in explanation, guessing the kid didn't know or understand GF Junction principles. Then, as an after-thought, he added; "Though, considering our situation: I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess Summon is blocked for us both. Can you Summon, Squall? I can't." he asked his classmate.
-----------------Vergil------------------
After his subtle mockery of the scarred, blonde human, he had turned back towards the arena and walked in, preparing himself for a challenge. He only hoped the opposition would prove capable. He sensed something of some of them, but they were mostly children. He couldn't figure out where a familiar feeling was coming from, but he suspected a Hellion or two to be in the mix somewhere.
"Grant me a battle..." he scoffed, testing his Beowulf gauntlet and grieves and then his Yamato. Satisfied, he stood ready at a single entrance.
-------------Tucker--------------
His team were insane. That was all there was to it. The shrimp was psychotic, the girl was either under permanent semi-sedation, or delirious, and the superhero wanna-be thought he was in charge? What was going on with Red Team? Tucker looked down at the shrimp in his red jacket. He was what--four-eleven, five-one, at best. Tucker was seven-seven. He might be a shitty one, but he was physically a SPARTAN. A true SPARTAN would laugh at him; but he had their strengths...only...he wasn't wholly good with them...
"Listen Hero. What rank are you? Corporal, Sergeant? What? Are you even IN the military? I'm Private First Class Lavernius Tucker: Blue Army. If I say I'm focused, I'm focused. I'm not gonna listen to you, unless I want to. Church'd have a fit if I threw down for some boyscout, and not when he orders me too. You, pipsqueak and ladybug; can be on my team all you want. But since round ones all on all, it..." he paused...the realisation sinking in. "Shit...err...wanna...work together for round one?" he asked...
Shit was getting dangerous shortly, and all he had was a battle rifle and his sword. And no reloads? That meant thirty six shots was all he had. And the BR fired in 3-shot bursts...
"Oh, fuckberries...I only got twelve shots!" he cried out.
-----------------Dr Jackal--------------
He pouted with displeasure at Syoaran's reply to his offer, but quickly changed his tune. "Oh well; you know where to find me if you change your mind, little Prince!" he said, and flashed away; intending on reaching the start area in a few short moments. His departure should leave the pair of Princess Sakura and Syoaran momentarily stunned at his speed: he was lightning fast, after all.
He flashed past the blue-coated devil that he found thoroughly amusing, and tipped his hat to the hybrid demon, even though he wasn't certain he could see Kuroudo, he had to offer that and a devious smile.
"Good hunting, Dr Devil." he offered as he sped past. Aside from a twitch of his lip in recognition, Akabane noticed a lack of response. Clearly, someone believed he had all the advantages.
"You will be an interesting opponent, Vergil Sparda."
((In the case of Squall and Seifer; I think it best that - so they aren't disadvantaged - they have GFs Junctioned, with a few spells set, but be externally blocked from being able to Summon the GF in combat - so as not to god-mod ourselves - as in FFVIII, Summoning worked defensively and offensively: it would take damage for the character while they prepared to summon it, and then attacked when summoned. At least, with Junction, we can cast spells for ranged attacks (as most everyone else can attack at range) and Summon blocked, we don't overrun competition. Is this fair and agreeable?))

Protoman couldn't help but smirk at the teal-suited man when he realised what exactly the first round would be. He even let a small chuckle slip out of his lips as he shook his head, long silver ponytail whipping back and forth. "Have fun looking after your own ass now," he mocked with a wave of his hand as he turned away to proceed out into the arena, flexing his sword arm.

Ciel wouldn't even bother to offer Megaman a reply to his 'warnings', sniffing indignantly and turning away from him. "Come on Sebastian," he demanded, heading off towards the arena.
Sebastian smirked softly, bowing deeply to Megaman and Train, bidding them farewell before he moved to follow after Ciel.
((Sorry it's crap... it'll improve when I get back in the flow again.))

Megaman felt his heart sink when the first match was announced as a free-for-all. Now he would have nothing but foes! He did not voice his concerns aloud, though, deciding that doing so would only give his opponents the impression that he was weak and make them target him. He took a deep breath to try and calm himself and continued on into the entrance to the virtual arena, preparing himself for battle. He had no choice but to fight in this bloodbath, but if a slave of battle he was, he certainly didn't want to be the losing party of this collection of inter-dimensional gladiators. As much as he didn't want to be a part of this forced war, it was his only way home. He only hoped his programming and his conscience wouldn't get in the way of this fight, his chances of returning home were riding on his performance. What if he wasn't able to get home to the people who needed him...?

Neku and Shiki glanced at each other and nodded, an agreement between them that there was no way they were betraying each other. Shiki was afraid, but she felt that as long as Neku was with her, she could stand to continue withthis absurd competition, preparing to arrive at the entrance to the virtual arena where they would be forced into battle.
