"Its nothing... the most trivial of memorials to honour the greatest of people." Cloud replied bitterly from where he sat by the edge of the flower bed, staring blankly at the tarnished grey sword that rose from the center of the pristine flower bed.
"Nothing i could do could repay them for..." He trailed off, obviously deciding that they were now straying into the region of emotions that were for him and him alone.
"Zack's greatest wish was to be with Aerith... its all he ever wanted, all he fought for. I suppose fate would have been cruel to leave him with his life when she was denied hers." There was a slight bitter undertone to his otherwise emotionless voice. But someone who had spent time with the blonde would know what these words meant.
Cloud felt alone, never in his life had he felt like there was no one left in this world that understood him.

"Fate was cruel to take her in the first place," Tseng sighed quietly.
He rose then - he couldn't stay any longer... for numerous reasons - but he took a step toward the blonde.
"Thank you... Cloud," he said, hesitantly offering him a hand to shake in a gesture of appreciation.

Cloud looked vacantly at the Turk's hand, not sure he really wanted the man to leave. Slowly he got to his feet, his eyes still with their empty sadness.
"I wish i could have shown you to them personally.... rather than this." He shook his head as he took the Turk's offered hand. "Zack would have been glad to see you survived... Aerith too." The stiff fashion in which he said their names was a good indication of the heart ache he felt when he thought about them.
As he shook the Turk's hand he couldn't ignore the voice in his head that screamed at him, cursing his name for being the cause of the bad news he'd had to impart.

Strangely enough, Tseng smiled, small and sad though it was.
"I'm sure they're proud of what you've done to stop Sephiroth and help the Planet..."
He turned and started to leave, pausing only at the Church doors.
"I hope... we cross paths again soon, Cloud..."

Cloud broke eye contact with Tseng has he said that Aerith and Zack would be proud of him. Cloud very much doubted that, but he did not voice his insecurity.
"I'm sure we will, Tseng." He said stiffly as he watched the Turk leave, "Somehow, i think our paths walk the same way now." As the dark haired man left, Cloud turned back to the flower bed and its solemn marker.
