Ema got into the drivers seat and started the car.
"I am sure Gumshoe will moan for a while if you left."
She took off towards Mr Gavin's home, rubbing her nose a little as the smell of alcohol filled her car.

Klavier snorted bitterly at Ema's reaction to his comment. She'd practically confirmed what he'd suspected, she didn't care even a little if he was there or not.

It took a fair bit more uncharacteristically stubborn insistence from Iris before an excuse-riddled Phoenix finally and reluctantly picked up a phone.
"I bet it's the wrong number anyway..." he grumbled.

"Nein fraulein, I think I've caused you enough trouble for one night," Klavier grumbled, climbing out of the car and staggering clumsily onto the side-walk.
The phone would only ring for a few seconds before a crisp voice would end Phoenix's suspense.
"Hallo Franziska Von Karma sprechen. Es sollten besser wichtig."
If the accent hadn't made it obvious who the phone number belonged to then the aggravated speech and callous attitude would have.
Ema had been right after all.

Phoenix paused for a moment, obviously thrown by the foreign language. But then he started grinning.
"Nice to know you can be angry in any language, Franziska," he said into the receiver.
To hear her voice... he found he was strangely relieved. Like some of the weight on his shoulders had been lifted by the few words she spoke... whatever she had said.

Ema watched as Klavier got out of her car, a little concerned about his current state... she didn't want the guy to get into trouble.
"Get inside Mr. Gavin, maybe with some sleep you will be your old self again."
Ema would rather that than this horrible and pathetic sight.

"Gute Nacht, Fraulein," Klavier called, waving over his shoulder towards the car as he staggered up the stairs outside his apartment. "Danke, for the lift."
There was a moment of silence on Franziska's end of the phone before she gave a gruff exhale.
"You have some nerve, Phoenix Wright. I was enjoying that salad," she snapped, and there was the sound of a piece of cutlery being put down on china. There was the sound of her murmuring apologies to someone in a language other than German before her attention seemed to come back to the phone.
"Have you manned up enough to return to the real world and challenge me? Or are you simply looking for long delayed and meaningless idle chatter..." There was a delay of a few seconds as she mulled something over. "Isn't it a little late for that however?"

"Can I take option C?" Phoenix replied sarcastically, hearing a voice in the background murmur something back to Franziska, accompanied by the scraping of a chair.
"At any rate, wouldn't you want to catch up with an old... friend, regardless?" he smirked.
"You can always ring back if you're worried your salad will get, uh, cold?"

She paused for a while again before she sighed. "Alright, I'll play along. What is it that you want?"

The urge to hang up then was overwhelming, but a stern look from Iris - or at least, as stern as she could get - kept him on the line.

It only took Franziska a matter of seconds to work out who Phoenix meant. There weren't a lot of people in the world that Phoenix Wright would be looking for.
"What makes you think I know where he is? Surely you knew when he entered that program that none of us were ever going to see him again," there was the sting of hurt in her voice.
"I haven't heard from Miles Edgeworth in.... it must be nearly nine years," the hurt continued in her voice, despite the anger she was trying to maintain.
"What do you want to find that foolish fool for anyway?"
It made her angry, to think that her 'brother' hadn't even contacted HER. So what if he'd been hidden away by the police in order to protect him from the people who wanted him dead? That was no excuse for not contacting Franziska Von Karma!

Why did Phoenix want to find Edgeworth? He wasn't sure of that answer. So he ignored the question.
"You were my best starting point," he said simply.
"I thought if he were to contact someone, or if someone was able to hunt him down, it would be you..."
He was feeding her ego now.

The swelling of her head happened instantly, and she unintentionally straightened in her chair, leaning into the phone more.
"I have the... assets, required to locate someone who has been made to disappear. However, you've yet to tell me why exactly I should help you find him."
She braced the side of her face with her fingertips. "Finding someone who doesn't exist anymore is no easy task you realise."
