Andraste frowned, troubled by all that Aiden was telling her. She didn't buy the 'uncle' story one bit. Rayn felt different... he gave off an aura of ancient wisdom... and though there was a strange harshness to him... she was sure she felt something softer.
"You're lucky to have him," she said softly, not taking her eyes off the road. "Even being with someone you dislike beats being alone, right?"

Unfortunately not picking up on the deeper meaning of what Andy said, Aiden made a rude noise, "yeah right. I'd rather be alone than put up with him. But anyway, let's stop talking about him.. he just aggitates me.. sorry." as they pulled up to macdonalds and began to get out of her car, Aiden turned to Andy, once again smiling, "So.. how good did I beat you at halo last week, eii?" he joked, walking around the car to join her before they headed towards the entrance.

Andy hid her true feelings at his scoff behind a sweet smile, and relented as he changed the subject.
"I let you win," she insisted with a laugh as she got out of the car and they headed towards the restaurant together. "I was only half paying attention."

His ego not quite trodden on, Aiden quirked an eyebrow, another habit he'd picked up from Rayn, "OH yeah? What was the rest of your attention focused on?" he quipped... then...
wow.. in all this time he'd never asked her.. "Um.. Andy... you're not.. attached.. are you?" his face coloured slightly as each word forced itself from his lips.

Andy laughed almost mockingly and shook her head.
"I don't get out much, so I don't meet many people. I've never been attached, as you put it."
She held the door open for him, before following him to the front counter.

Aiden felt foolish, "oh" he replied lamely, lining up behind the counter. Trying to redeem himself but unsure if it would get him into more strife he decided to bite the bullet when once they'd sat down with their ordered food. "So... now that you are out.. and we've met.. would you be interested in spending some more time with me after today? I mean.. as more than just a thankyou from a friend?" he asked hopefully, obviously not wasting any time.

Andraste turned her gaze onto Aiden and watched him for a moment. He was a sweet guy... and they'd been friends a long time... but she didn't know whether she could really offer what he was hoping for.
"I'd be happy to hang out more often," she replied, offering him a careful smile. "I'm just not... I'm not looking for anything deeper than that at the moment, you understand?"
She was gentle, not wanting to offend him or kill his ego or anything.

Aiden nodded, guessing that that's the answer he'd get. 'let's just be friends...' "Yeah.. uh.. me neither.. i was just wondering, but that's cool" he offered her a smile before taking a bite of his big mac. "So what do you do around here?"

Andraste wasn't so sure he was as accepting of her answer as he seemed, but she hoped their friendship would at least be enough to keep him happy.
"Not a lot," she said, picking at her nuggets. "I have a job at a local New Age store twice a week... other than that I just sit at home reading or playing video games. Sad I know, right?" she laughed softly.

Aiden smiled upon finishing his burger, "Not at all" he replied, wiping his hands on his jeans to get rid of any excess crumbs. "I do the same. I play games and I read. and I work." he shrugged, "Suits me."

"Not a lot else TO do, to be honest," she reasoned, finishing off one of her nuggets and taking a handful of chips.

"Hmm..." he too picked up his chips.. and practically inhaled them without noticing. "What about the nightlife? how's that?" he couldn't imagine sleepy Perth being all that overrun with daimons as New York was.. With New York, so many people were killed every week that the daimon population moving in hadn't really changed the death toll that much.. especially when some of the diamons killed the bad guys.. cause they have powerful souls.. for humans. He hated thinking like that.. like he and a bunch of others were just pawns on a board to be jostled around by the more powerful beings... but Acheron insisted full history lessons for the squires.. and at the time Aiden had thought it was really cool to know.. until he realised just how small he was in the big scheme of pantheons, etc, etc...
So anyway.. he was doubting Perth could be so crazily overrun

"Oh, well. The nightlife in Perth is great," Andraste replied, though the undertone to her voice suggested there was more to it then that. "Provided you don't mind running the risk of getting stabbed, beaten or raped." She frowned darkly, munching on her chips in a thoughtful way for a few moments before she continued.
"It used to just be the odd stabbing or glassing here or there... not too much to handle. Recently though the attacks are getting more brutal... they reckon its a serial killer or something... Northbridge is the worst spot for it."

The answer Aiden received really wasn't what he'd been expecting. He guessed this 'serial killer' was why Rayn had been sent in. He wondered how Andy would take it is she knew the man sleeping in her bedroom could be a lot worse than those serial killers.. "Wow.. i wasn't expecting that. I figured you'd barely have any nightclubs.. or at least they wouldn't get too violent.. guess i was wrong.." he'd have to let Rayn know; which sucked because Rayn hated it when others helped him. He preferred to be the lone ranger type. pffsht.

"What did you think this was, a dive?" Andy asked with a smirk. "We're not a backwater country filled with bogans you know. Despite what the tabloids might tell you."
