Against his better judgment, he lifted a finger to capture a tear as it ran down her cheek. He wiped it to the side before pulling his hand back away. "Because you need to understand that his legacy lives on in yourself. he is your destiny, but you have a choice... we all have a choice. You can succumb to your destiny, or you can fight it.." he let that sink in before continuing, "You have great power within you Andraste, and I'm hear now to help you with that.." he spoke quietly throughout.

The look on Andraste's face suggested she was about ready to decide either he was crazy, or she needed to kill herself as soon as possible.
"He was a bastard. I want nothing to do with him," she snapped.

This was turning out so much harder than Rayn had hoped it would be. "Your turn... to ask a question" he leaned back onto the bottom section of the couch. Whether she meant to or not, she'd answered his question. She had no idea what the malachai were or about her inherited powers. He realised he would have to give a little to get a little in this situation.

Andraste peered at Rayn through eyes narrowed with suspicion. Originally, she'd had no questions, now though, she had many many questions.
"How did you know all that stuff about my father? Mother and I never told anyone."

Placing his words in a way he thought would seem the least threatening, he explained, "Because I know my history. Although i'd never met him before, his name has been feared over the ages. It was said that he held no love for any. That he had no mercy and he killed without thought or care.-" he decided not to go into what he'd heard of her father anymore lest he upset or anger her more, -and then, as I was coming back to see you, I found out that he had not died alongside the rest of his, but that he had died many years later - that he had married and sired a child. You.. and I could only imagine from there.." he decided it was best to leave out that he could read her thoughts.. just for now..

He wasn't very good at being subtle anymore. Once, he had been, but for the last 2000 years he'd very rarely needed to and even less frequently chosen to. "Your father wasn't human, Andraste. he was the last of his kind, called the Malachai; created by a god and controlled, for the most part, by what he wanted."

The colour drained from Andy's face, and though her jaw popped open and closed several times as if anticipating words, nothing ever came out. She remained sat exactly as she was, staring at him with that same disbelieving wideness.

Deciding to continue, he did so quietly, "Your father was one of the more widely known of the malachai. For example, I barely knew of them, yet his name had drifted to me from time to time. When the malachai were defeated in battle, one sephirii still lived. They were those who the malachai were at war with. Or at least, who they were to battle. Since one sephirii lived, the Egyptian goddess Maat, to restore balance, resurrected one malachai. Your father then escapted his master and found your mother. He needed to keep low, or his master would find him, so he married..."

Andraste's jaw really dropped now, she was already so very lost.
Sephirii? Malachai? Egyptian Goddesses?
He was talking about things from history... or fiction at the very best! Some of which she didn't even know what he meant! And yet he was talking about it as if it were real!
Briefly she decided he was mad, and that she ought to just smile and nod, submit to his wild fantasies in the hopes that he wouldn't harm her. Then however... her mother's words came back to her.
There was truth in everything, even if it was sometimes hard to swallow.
"S-So you're saying I'm... not entirely human?" she asked, her voice barely a whisper.
'No wonder my mother took her own life...' she thought bitterly.

There are a lot of beings that walk among humans, appearing human, and yet they're not. they can live a completely human life if they choose, just as you may be able to if that's what you decided you want."

Andy stared at Rayn for a very long time, it was beginning to seem like perhaps she'd gone into shock and wouldn't move at all, because she wasn't even blinking. Then finally her eyes narrowed ever so slightly and then widened in what could have only been epiphany.
"What ARE you?" she asked, her voice still hushed.

He could see she wasn't taking it well..."Nuh-uh. My turn for a question." he pretended to ponder for quite some time, though he knew what he was going to ask from the moment she asked him. "What makes you think I'm anything but human?" he whispered, as if it was a secret just between the two of them. He wanted her to be able to relax and be open to more before he was to let her into any more of his world.

Andy took a moment to think over her response, though she became distracted by his gaze for a few moments.
"You're obscure about everything about yourself... you ask strange questions, you know more about me than I do..."
She swallowed deeply to collect herself before continuing.
"You know things normal people don't know... I saw a VAMPIRE last night and you said you hunt them and..." she froze, eyes widening a little. "You're... allergic to the sun..."
Despite the hesitance of her last sentence, she didn't move, she just stared at him.

Rayn smiled warmly, glad that she was being pleasantly co-operative. "I'm a dark hunter. Probably best described to you as a vampire slayer..?" he contemplated how to explain her other observations, "To make it fair, me and my kind were given the weakness of burning in sunlight, as our prey does, so that we would not be able to hunt them during the day light, where they can't venture." he waited patiently for her next question, his eyes trained on hers. he was amazed at how easy it was becoming to talk to the woman in front of him.
