"I don't really remember," Yami replied, turning back to face Yugi, folding his arms. "I could have been an evil Pharaoh for all I know." He shrugged, a hand rising to cup his chin again, the other remaining folded. "The past doesn't matter, all that matters is the present." He walked forward then, coming to kneel down in front of Yugi, meeting his gaze earnestly. "And from this day on... I'm what ever you need me to be." For the first time a smile crossed Yami's face. It was soft but sincere, and it seemed to make his purple eyes glimmer. He reached out, placing a hand over Yugi's. "Now get some sleep."
The room would begin to blur then, until it vanished completely from sight, leaving Yugi to his rest.

Yugi looked surprised by the smile, but then before he had the chance to smile back the room began to disappear and Yugi felt himself drifting back into his dreams. The next time he opened his eyes, he was awake in his room with the sunlight gleaming in through the window. He sat up and stretched with a yawn, staying where he was a moment to rub sleepily at his eyes before he glanced over to the clock and got up, realising he was only a few minutes early for his alarm anyway. He got dressed, turned off his alarm before it even starting going off and then headed downstairs to find his grandfather busily vacuuming the shop for the day. They exchanged the usual cheery greetings and Yugi went to get himself some breakfast, upon finishing which he collected up the things for his lunch and went back upstairs to prepare his bag for the day. Today was Friday, he recalled, which he felt very relieved about. 'At least tomorrow I'll be able to stay safe at home. I think I've had enough of school for one week...' he thought to himself, zipping up his bag and then heading downstairs again to start walking to school. He called a goodbye to his grandfather and then left, having to squint into the light somewhat as the rising sun met him from over the trees across the road from the shop as it did every morning. He had more than once joked that the sun was his only friend, since it greeted him every morning and accompanied him to school each day. He'd also considered whether or not thinking such was a sign he was going crazy or not.
He found himself thinking about Yami this morning, however, wondering where the mysterious spirit might have vanished to after their talk last night. Did spirits sleep? He assumed not, since the Pharaoh had been awake when he'd seen him in his strange world. He found himself wondering when he'd get the chance to speak with the spirit again, wanting to know more about him...after all Yami seemed to know plenty about him already.
((is this alright?))

As Yugi came around the corner, he'd walk past an old looking book store. It was a rickety shop with a homey feel, and books stacked in piles to the roof so tightly the aisle's between were barely accessible. He'd be just passing the door when the bell would jingle, and a man would step out onto the sidewalk. It was Yami. "Oh, there you are. Right on time," he greeted Yugi when he spotted him, falling into step beside him. "I had a look at your booklist last night after you fell asleep and saw that you hadn't been able to find this." He handed the old book over to Yugi.

Yugi jumped slightly when he was suddenly spoken to, not used to being spoken to outside of home or school. "o-oh, Yami! Sorry, you startled me" he greeted, after he took a breath to replace the one he'd lost, in his surprise. When the man offered the book to him, he looked very surprised, taking it gently with a small, grateful smile. "oh, thanks! wow, you must have really good luck or something, I've been looking everywhere for this! That's really nice of you to go looking for it for me, thankyou" he said, seeming legitimately surprised by the gift, since only Grandpa ever bought anything for him. He then looked up at the spirit curiously. "Why did you want to know what was on my booklist, though? Did you want to know what I was learning about at school or something?" he asked, not seeming so much bothered as he did curious, by the man having been looking through his things. He didn't feel he needed to be defensive about it, with Yami. He seemed to be enjoying having company for once, since he usually walked to school alone every morning. It was a pleasant change having someone to talk to.

"I'm good at finding old things," Yami joked softly, folding his arms as they walked along. He seemed to give the same keen eye to everyone who walked past them, as if he were keeping a wary cautiousness to their walk. "I wanted to know what you're studying this year so that I'm not behind." A confident smirk crossed his face then. "I may have fixed things so that your teacher and school mates think I had always been there, but they won't be so convinced if I have no idea what I'm doing." What Yugi would soon discover, was that Yami had used his magic to create himself into Yugi's life. All of his teachers, school mates and associates now believed that Yugi had always had a twin brother, and that none of them would find Yami's presence at all confusing. Even Yugi's grandfather believed it.

Yugi seemed confused at that, and perhaps a little concerned, tilting his head slightly in bewilderment. "h-huh? What do you mean by that, Yami?" he asked, pausing as they reached a crosswalk to wait for the lights to change. He briefly made note that this was actually the very same crossing that Yugi had ever crossed paths with Yami outside his dreams, and wondered subconsciously what he might have been doing before they'd run into each other...had he been wandering all night?

"You'll see," Yami replied with a cryptic smirk, turning his gaze back ahead of them as the school gates grew bigger before them. The yard was already busy with students and teachers, and not one of them seemed to cast a curious look in their direction. They were half way across the yard towards the main building when a teacher approached them, all smiles. "Good morning Yugi Motou, I trust you completed that homework I assigned all right?" She looked up at Yami then, the smile brightening. "Ah! Yami, so glad to see you back from your exchange schooling safe and sound! What was America like?" Yami's satisfied smirk remained as he cast a sidelong glance at Yugi. He seemed rather proud of himself for some reason. "It was an enlightening experience Miss Akimaru," he replied with a respectful bow of his head. "But it is better to be home." "I'm sure it is," the teacher chimed, once again turning her attention back to Yugi. "You and your Grandfather must be so pleased to have him home again."

Yugi nodded to the teacher as she asked him how he went with the homework, which was likely not a surprising reaction as basically his whole life revolved around getting good enough grades to at least have someone pay him some attention other than a fist in his face or dirt/gum in his locker. When she turned to Yami and addressed him as if he'd always known her, saying something about exchange schooling, the shorter teen had nearly flipped out in utter confusion. One had to admire his acting skills, however, as he kept a completely straight expression despite his shock, and replied as if he had planned it all along and rehearsed it many times. "oh yes, ma'am. It'll be nice having him home, it's been quiet without him around." he replied, with a convincing enough smile that didn't at all betray the mental freak-out he was silently having.
As soon as the woman left them, he turned to Yami with an awed look on his face. "what the heck was that?! What exactly did you do?" he asked, keeping his voice down as much as he could around his disbelief. "It's like you were always here to start with, how did you do it?!"

Yami just shrugged when Yugi turned to him for answers following the Teacher's departure. He seemd thoroughly amused by the boy's reaction. "Human minds are somewhat easily manipulated. I just convinced everyone associated with you that I have always been here." The way the Spirit spoke about it made it sound like a completely normal and simple thing to do. "It certainly makes my job easier... I don't have to sneak around all the time this way."

Yugi's expression changed to one of approval then. "nice; being a spirit must have its perks, huh?" he remarked, continuing to walk now, knowing Yami would follow. "so who exactly do they think you are, anyway?" he asked, seeming to accept the change easily enough, figuring that it couldn't be too strange for this sort of thing to happen now that Yami was around.

"Your brother," Yami replied simply, clearly not the sort for dragging things out. He held the door to the main building open for Yugi, so that he could enter the long hall that was lined with student's lockets. "Your twin no less, to account for the physical similarity. Thankfully, no one will question the few things that suggest an age gap..."

Yugi nodded in understanding at that, smiling slightly and offering a somewhat surprised thanks as Yami held the door for him, before he led the way to his locker. "cool, I've never had any family besides Grandpa...it'll be nice having someone else to talk to!" he said, seeming thoughtful a moment. "Why would you say nobody will question the differences?" he asked, obviously unable to come up with a reason on his own. Upon getting his locker open he put his backpack into the space that was left for it and began pulling out the books he'd need for the first lessons of the day.

Yami shrugged. "When people are convinced of something, they don't tend to think about those things that make it strange." He moved away from Yugi then, finding his own locker, which miraculously was filled with all the books he would need. He'd obviously had a very busy night.

Yugi tried not to look too surprised by the fact that Yami's locker was already filled with the books he would need, since there were others around, but he was sure his eyes went a little wider at the sight. "oh...I guess that does make sense, actually" he grabbed the last book he would need and shut his locker, snapping the lock shut. "so you're in the same classes as me, then?" he asked, quietly, waiting for an answer before he'd go wandering off anywhere.

"Mostly," Yami replied, pulling the books he needed out of his locker and turning back to face Yugi. "Though I took philosophy instead of science." He screwed his nose up ever so slightly, obviously he didn't like science so much... not overly surprising, given he was a centuries' old spirit.
