Plot - Not needed. Set in New Orleans. Learn your stuff and join in. Talk to myself, Elario and Lykaios (named in order of knowledge of the series) as much as you want to get the hang of things and any info you need.
Read some, then read a little bit more. I've taken most info from around the interwebs so if you read it somewhere else, that's why. I'll just put most of the need-to-know info here. The more you know, the better prepared you are. At the moment your characters can be either Were-hunters or Darkhunters until we get further into the RP or it'll make it too complicated from the beginning. Things I want you to be confused in, I've probably left you hanging. But if you think I've left something out or you'd like more info about something to do with your character or your posts then please feel free to PM me if you can't find it here.
Characters and places you'll need to know to enter the roleplay - For every character I introduce, I'll post their bio in this thread with a link here from the roleplay so you remember to check it. That way I won't make this initial post as huge as it has the potential to be and you'll learn more as the roleplay progresses.
Acheron Parthenopaeus - Even though he was the youngest when he died, Acheron was the first Dark-Hunter ever appointed. He is also the writer of the Dark-Hunter Creed and of the Code we abide by. Because of his Dark-Hunter age and the fact that he fought the Daimons alone for thousands of years, he is more phantom than real. He interacts with the other Dark-Hunters on a whim, and his sage advice is often sought. Eccentric and idiosyncratic to the extreme, he is a legend among legends. The Dark-Hunters never know what to expect when Acheron enters a scene. He runs the full gamut from friendly to intimidating to downright scary. It is said of him that there has never been a mortal born who could equal his physical perfection. He possesses a raw, rare kind of charisma.
No one knows why he became what he did. Then again, no one knows much about him. Period. And he likes it that way. Trying to get any personal information out if him is an impossible task.
No one even knows what his real hair colour is.
Artemis - She is a primary goddess who rules over all the Dark-Hunters.
When the Apollites were cursed by Apollo, they were taken in by the goddess Apollymi who showed them how to steal human souls to circumvent Apollo’s decree. Now called Daimons, they turned against mankind. Apollo sought his sister’s aid in handling them. For reasons unknown, Artemis went to Acheron (common belief is that he was a renowned Atlantean hero whose bravery had caused him to be spared when Apollo cast the city into the ocean- we know this isn’t true, but propaganda reigns supreme) and convinced him to help her hunt down and destroy the Daimons who were preying on pregnant women and children. Those of us in the know, know that she did it to tie Acheron to her for eternity.
Neither Acheron nor Artemis has ever disclosed the exact nature of their relationship. In many ways, they act as if the other doesn’t exist. All that is known is that Acheron must seek her out whenever a Dark-Hunter wishes to reclaim his soul. Since no other Dark-Hunter is allowed in the goddess’s presence, Acheron is often sent in to ask her questions or to clarify her orders.
She is ruthlessly protective of her army and of Acheron. Her affinity for Acheron is sometimes an aggravation for certain Dark-Hunters who can’t understand why he alone is able to see her while any other man who dares such is put to death. She has placed her mark on all her Dark-Hunters and demands a sacrifice for each one who would seek his or her freedom.
Stryker - One of the most ruthless of Daimons, and yet he has a code of honor that he follows. The son of Apollo, he was one of the first Apollites cursed and he hates his father passionately. He also hates Acheron and virtually everyone else. The only person he’s loved in thousands of years was his son Urian. Although Stryker is loyal to his Spathi army.
Sworn to Apollymi, Stryker is also plotting her death. He’s just a really unhappy Daimon. He feels as if he’s been betrayed by everyone and he has vowed to see his father, Apollymi and Acheron fall at any cost. All in all, he’s one bad mother and he makes no bones about it.
His two distinguishing features are that he has black hair (he hates his father so much, he refuses to be blond) and his swirling silver eyes that are identical to someone else’s.
Dark-Hunter: An ancient warrior who was betrayed into death and sold his or her soul to the goddess Artemis for a single act of vengeance. Now they protect mankind from the Daimons who want to eat human souls.
The Dark-Hunter Credo:
"We are Darkness. We are Shadow.
We are the Rulers of the Night.
We, alone, stand between mankind and those who would see mankind destroyed. We are the Guardians.
The Soulless Keepers.
Our souls were cast out so that we would not forewarn the Daimons we pursue. By the time they see us coming, it’s too late.
The Daimons and Apollites know us. They fear us. We are death to all those who prey upon the humans.
Neither Human, nor Apollite, we exist beyond the realm of the Living, beyond the realm of the Dead.
We are the Dark-Hunters.
And we are eternal."
Yeah, yeah. Enough of the doom and gloom because, baby, that ain’t us. You want to know what a Dark-Hunter is? We are what the intro says. We’re Mad, Bad and Immortal. We’re ancient warriors with attitudes who fight rough, and play hard.
We are the scary things that go bump in the night. And we love every minute of it. So when you think you’re being watched. You just might be. The question is…is it something evil or is it one of us?
Need to know notes:
-If a Dark-hunter is in the presence of a god/goddess, it's kill on site. For the Dark-hunter, not the god. So... avoid. They have an issue with us cause we have no soul.
-To give us efficiency in hunting the Daimons, the goddess Artemis equipped us with a lot of their traits and more. We have fangs (best to learn to hide these when you speak or you'll tend to freak out the humans. It gets easier with age and experience.), we have speed, we have strength, intensified hearing, and great night sight. Occasionally, a Dark-hunter who was gifted in lift will bring this into death(.. undeath?) intensified.
-Unfortunately, Artemis also thought it only fair to give us their weaknesses as well. Do not get caught out in sunlight. You'll know when it's time to head home; you'll be able to feel the sun's imminent presence. IF you get caught out in the sunlight, you'll burn to a crisp. If you die, souless as you are, you'll become a bodiless Shade, doomed to walk the earth for eternity. Forever hungry and suffering. Forever in pain. So don't die. You will also die if you have your head cut off, so.. don't do that either.
-Most Dark-hunters live either on their own or with a squire. Many live in the sort of places they would have as a human. Except with all windows 100% boarded up. A lot of Dark-hunters get assigned a Squire.
-Your Job is to protect the humans at all costs. You hunt the Daimons by night. You kill them to release the human souls inside them before the soul whithers and dies and they get another.
Squire:
Squires are either the children of other Squires or they are recruited by Squires and Dark-Hunters.
-Squires have an elaborate set-up that can quickly get anything a Dark-Hunter or other Squire needs. They have lawyers, doctors, bankers, pilots, etc., as well as establishments such as hospitals, restaurants, libraries that appear to serve humans as a front, but in reality were established solely to serve the Dark-Hunters and their helpers.
-The Squire Council is a select group of Squires who oversee the activities of the other Squires. They make payroll and give out money to any Squire who wishes to set up a business front for the Dark-Hunters.
Main branches/designation of Squires:
Blood-Rites: Squires who are called out to perform blood hunts to terminate any Squire who breaches his/her oath and endangers the Dark-Hunters or their world. They are also called in to execute a "rogue" Dark-Hunter who has turned against humans; though it is highly recommended to let Acheron know if this happens. Blood-Rites Squires are marked by a spider web-like tattoo on the hand.
Blue-Bloods: Squires who are descended from other Squires.
Dorean/Free Agents: Squires who don't serve a specific DH, but who provide a service that helps all of them. Doctors, pilots, police officers, judges, etc. fall into this category.
Echo/Barnacles: They are assigned to a specific DH and they maintain the DH's home. They often fetch for them as well. They are aids and personal assistants. They live with the Dark-Hunter and help to create an illusion that there's nothing unusual going on with the occupants of a house.
Initiates/Chips: Squires who are recruited.
Oracles: Squires who confer with the gods, especially the Fates to gather information that is helpful to the Dark-Hunters. The most prominent Oracles are the Lekti who keep the Book of Prophecy where all important events in human history are predicted. It is said even the End of the World is chronicled within its pages. They fall outside the control of the Squire Council and are led by the Delphinian (Oracle of Delphi).
Tech: Squires who are involved in research and technological fields. They are the ones who conceive and create special toys and who enable Dark-Hunters to communicate with each other.
Theto/Theti: They function like a police force within the realm of the Squires. They are also the ones sent out to deal with any civilian who finds out about the Dark-Hunters. Unlike the Blood-Rite Squires, they cannot kill anyone. They are sent in first to clean up the situation. If they are ineffective, then the Blood-Rites are called in.
Apollite: A race who worshipped Apollo only to be cursed by him for a crime they didn’t commit...They can only come out at night and they can only survive on the blood of one another. At age 27, the curse kills them slowly and painfully unless they turn Daimon...
Daimon: An Apollite who refused to die from the curse. They feed on human souls and live to fight the Dark-Hunters. Most reside in the Atlantean hell realm, Kalosis, under the command of Stryker.
Daimon Rules:
There is actually only one rule: Don’t Die.
However, we have put together a few reminders for you:
[/li][li]Don’t fall onto pointy objects chest first. You'll turn to dust. Not fun.
[/li][li]Don’t drink the blood of the dead.
[/li][li]Sunblock doesn’t work, nor do umbrellas or anything else. If sunlight touches you, you violate the only one real rule- Don’t die. You'll turn to dust. Still not fun.
[/li][li]All humans are evil.
[/li][li]Dark-Hunters are vermin in need of extermination.
[/li][li]Squires are extra yummy when eaten.
[/li][li]Avoid taking the life of an Arcadian or Katagari unless they are offered to you as a sacrifice. They tend to have very large families that will hunt you down and kill you. On that note, remember, they can travel and kill in daylight. We can’t.
In fact, avoid angering anything that walks in daylight. They tend to break into our cribs and expose us to light. So don’t play with your food. Kill them, eat them and move on.
[/li][li]Dark-Hunters can’t go into cemeteries or any haunted place. For a great show, drag them inside and watch what happens.
[/li][li]Dark-Hunter blood is poisonous to us.
[/li][li]Don’t try to kill a Dark-Hunter to steal his soul. They don’t have one. It’s a waste of your time and it just pisses off the Dark-Hunter.
[/li][li]You can only kill a Dark-Hunter by exposing him to daylight or by decapitation. Anything else just pisses them off.
[/li][li]If you see someone with a bow and arrow tattoo, walk on by. DO NOT ENGAGE. Not unless you’re a true Spathi and in that case Bon Apetite
[/li][li]Hang with the Goth crowd, we tend to blend and they think our fangs are cool. Not to mention Goth chicks will gladly ask you to bite them. Goth clubs = supermarket/fast food.
[/li][li]Avoid polyester and plaid. No real reason other than you just look stupid in it. No one should be caught dead in either one and since we’re dead…
[/li][li]Avoid the Dark-Hunter called Acheron. There is no such thing as escaping or defeating him. He will kick your ass and laugh while he mops the floor with you.
[/li][li]Avoid biker bars. 1. they tend to have Dark-Hunters in them. 2. we don’t blend in there.
[/li][li]Once you go Daimon, do not share this knowledge with any non-Daimon. If anyone should ask, you’re still Apollite. Who’s going to know? And if they do, kill them.
[/li][li]Never take an Apollite soul. It’s just bad form and we will hunt you down for it.
[/li][li]If a bolt-hole opens, go into it.
[/li][li]When approaching an Apollite, the key phrase to remember is “I am the Light of the Lyre and I walk in his grace.”
[/li][li]When approaching a Daimon, the key phrase is “I fear no evil, for I am the baddest creature walking the night.”
[/li][li]We don’t have records of all Apollite communities or groups, but the largest known groups are:
Karones– They are usually found in North America. Mostly the US and Canada. Unlike most of our people, they tend to frequent cooler climates.
Athenians–They are mostly found in and around our native homeland of Greece. They are marked by sun symbols of all sort.
Delphinians–They are our Oracles. Found throughout the world, it is believed they can summon the bolt-holes at will. You can find them by the dolphin tattoo or jewelry they all carry.
Polluxians (Cult of Pollux)– They are the strangest of Apollites in that they all swear an allegiance to die on their birthdays as Apollo decrees. Not well liked by other groups, they are usually found in remote areas.
Mavrovian–They are located in the warmer climates and many of them live in and around the Mediterranean. They are secretive, but we are told many of them carry the mark of the lyre.
Kalasian–They are our angels of mercy. Found all over, they usually live among the humans, but are willing to aid any Apollite they find. Many of them are located in the Arcadian or Katagaria sanctuaries.
Spathi–they are our warrior class. No one knows who they are or where they come from. They are mysterious and powerful. It is said one true Spathi can annihilate a group of Dark-Hunters easily. The true Spathi are identified by the mark of a yellow sun that holds a black dragon in its center. Their leaders are Stryker and Zephyra.
Agkelos–these are the Daimons who find it hard to take the life of “innocent” humans. The weakest of the Daimons, they prey on humans who are criminals and predators.
Day-Slayer–we have been told of these since the dawn of our history. No one has ever seen a Day-Slayer who is able to walk in daylight. But we believe they exist. It is also believed that one day the one true Day-Slayer will come and unite us all so that we can take our place as the rulers of the earth. It is a day we all dream of.
Dikisi–they are called vengeance Daimons. They specifically target the humans who have preyed on Apollites. They also target the Dark-Hunters and any who help or serve them. They are governed by a series of leaders. Only the strongest of them is capable of leadership and if a leader is perceived as weak, he is overthrown by his next in command.
Apati–these are the “fake” Spathi. Dark-Hunters and many Apollites can’t differentiate between these and the true Spathi. Most of them are found living in and around human cities. They are tough, but not nearly as much as the real thing.
Trelos–they are the insane Daimons that even the Daimons hunt and kill. These usually start out as Agkelos who have taken so many criminal and evil souls that it has destroyed their own soul. They no longer have control of themselves and will kill anyone they come into contact with whether they need to feed or not.
Kathoros–Said to be even more evil than the Spathi, these Daimons are rare. At one time they were believed to have been the servants of the Atlantean war god Misos. Like the Arcadian Sentinels, one half of their faces is tattooed and legend says they shave their heads.
Doulos–they are human servants to the Daimons. They guard and protect the Daimons from the humans. Their blood can tide a Daimon over if she/he is desperate, but they are only killed when they have betrayed or are no longer necessary. Most of them believe they will become a Daimon and have immortality. They’re very stupid which is why we love them.
Were-Hunter: (link for more info)
Lycaon, King of Arcadia, had a beautiful wife and two sons. Not knowing his wife was of the Apollite people (cursed by Apollo), he watched helplessly as she died horribly at the age of twenty-seven. Realizing his sons would meet the same fate, he attempted to circumvent the curse. Gathering as many Apollites as he could find, he began using arcane magic to change the people, trying to find a way to fool the gods.
Using these magicks, King Lycaon began splicing the essence of the Apollites with that of predatory animals, creating the first Were-Hunters. His experiments succeeded in circumventing the curse. Instead of living only twenty-seven years, they now lived for close to a thousand. Choosing the most powerful of the animals on which he had experimented, King Lycaon blended his sons with a dragon and a wolf.
For defying the will of a god, the Fates demanded that Lycaon kill his sons as punishment. When he refused, the Fates cursed the new race saying, "They will spend eternity hating and fighting until the day when the last of them breathes no more."
Whenever Lycaon blended an Apollite with an animal, he ended up with two new separate beings: one with an animal's heart and one with a human's. Thus the Katagaria and the Arcadians came to be.
Those directly descended from King Lycaon took the surname of Kattalakis.
The Katagaria are the animal-hearted Weres. Born as an animal, they can only become human at puberty when their magical powers are "unlocked." The Katagaria are very mistrustful of the Arcadians, because they believe humans are often deceptive. Katagaria follow the law of kill or be killed, preferring to attack when they feel threatened as opposed to waiting to be attacked themselves. The Katagaria only kill to defend themselves, their pack, or their territory. The Katagarian Strati are a sort of soldier that seek out Rogue Arcadians, but will not engage an enemy unprovoked. On the other hand, there are some Katagaria who are unable to reign in the hedonistic impulses of their animal soul and succumb to maddness. These Katagaria are referred to as Slayers.
It is a common Katagarian tradition to mount their first kill on the wall of their home. It is also polite to refer to the Katagaria by their animal selves, though referring to them by the term Were is extremely insulting.
The Arcadians are the human-hearted Weres, born as humans and can only become animals and harness their magical powers at puberty. The Arcadians feel that the Katagaria need to be closely monitored and controlled as to prevent them from being emotionless animals capable of killing without reason.
Arcadian soldiers, Sentinals, usually travel in groups of four, and make it their main duty to track and kill Slayers. Only a few Sentinals are born to each patria and they are chosen by the Fates. Sentinals can be recognized by a geometric design covering one side of their face. The design is a birthmark that appears at maturity, though most prefer to use their powers to hide them.
There are Katagarian and Arcadian groups of all patria, except the few which are extinct such as the snow leopards. If you choose to be a were (the exception is with Lykaios as he's read the books) then please don't automatically go for the dragon as at this point, Lykaios is going to have the only one in the RP.
Patria Animal
Balios Jaguar - The Arcadian half was wiped out due to them angering Savitar.
Drakos Dragon - Generally remain in the past.
Gerakian Hawk, Falcon, Eagle
Helikias Cheetah - The entire lot were wiped out by Savitar.
Litarian Lion
Lykos Wolf
Niphetos Pardalia Snow Leopard - Thought to be extinct.
Panthiras Panther
Pardalia Leopard
Tigarian Tiger
Tsakalis Jackal
Ursulan Bear
Nicolette Peltier (and family) (Katagaria Ursulan)
Mama Lo is a surrogate mother to a lot of the beasts who call Sanctuary home, but she’s also a bear and will not hesitate to do whatever she must to protect her den. Her children are her world and woe to anyone who threatens them.
Anyone.
She set up Sanctuary after two of her sons were killed by Arcadians. Gilbert and Bastien. She has an altar set up in Peltier House so that she can always pay tribute to them.
The Peltiers Are:
Papa Bear (Aubert)
Mama Lo (Nicolette)
Listed in birth order:
Alain
Zar
Cherif (Identical Quad/eldest)
Dev (Identical Quad) - A bouncer and self-proclaimed bodyguard for Mama and Aimee, Dev keeps a close eye on all the females at Sanctuary to make sure no one harasses them (unless they want to be harassed, with the exception of Aimee–no one touches her).
Remi (Identical Quad)
Quinn (Identical Quad/youngest)
Aimee
Etienne
Griffe (Serre’s identical twin)
Serre (Griffe’s identical twin)
Cody (Kyle’s fraternal twin)
Kyle (Cody’s fraternal twin)
Sancturies
Certain Were-Hunters (like the Peltiers; Katagarian bears) run Sanctuary's, where any Were can come if injured or hunted. There are rules however; if a Were is judged insane, they are hunted (as is anyone who attempts to help them) and banned from Sanctuary. No-one is allowed to fight in a sanctuary, and if one starts the first to attack is banned from that particular sanctiary. They are closely protected by Savitar against non-were interference, and Daimons, Apollites and Were-Hunters (as they are all related) are all protected classes- if they are in a Sanctuary and someone attacks them (if the ruling family cannot prevent it) then Savitar will get involved (Not fun). Humans are allowed to visit and work in but are not a protected class, due to Savitar's "all humans are vermin" mindset. It is also against the law for humans to know what really goes on there, leading to few human workers in any particular Sanctuary. The Omerigon decide who can run a sanctury, and they may only be set up where needed. The two most well known are The Inferno in Minnesota (a club run by Dante Pontis, a Katagarian panther) and Sanctuary In New Orleans (run by the Peltiers.) To keep in with the "no fighting" policy, the Sanctuary in New Orleans has a warning system for their clientele when Acheron arrives (he is the only Dark-Hunter who visits regularaly) in the form of the song "Sweet Home Alabama." As he is sworn to kill all Daimons he finds and they can often be found there it gives them the chance to leave before he enters. This has caused problems, however, as often an unsuspecting human will put the song on the jukebox, causing almost all the people there (including Were-Hunters who are afraid of him) to run for cover.
The Omegron (Were-hunter counselling body), Were-hunter powers and weaknesses will be given on demand.
Dream-Hunter: They are the gods of sleep who were cursed by Zeus to feel no emotion.
Charonte: A race of demons who are extremely violent. They are enslaved to the goddess Apolymi.
Squire: A human who is employed by a Dark-Hunter.
Chthonian: A race of unknown beings. The aforementioned Savitar is one of these. Extremely powerful and nasty. Only a few are left in the world and it’s best just to walk away slowly and make no sudden moves.
PROFILE SET-UP
You all know how to set one of these up. Say somewhere whether your character is a Were-hunter or a Darkhunter. Thanks The following is the basic, however chop and change it to fit your needs.

Lykos Wolf
Niphetos Pardalia Snow Leopard - Thought to be extinct.

Aimee
Etienne
