Aether's happy expression sobered instantly and his pressed his clenched hands to his lips, eyes deeply pensive.
"That is what my brother now discusses with the High Council." He shook his head, 'When last i was updated they were thinking of the prospect of a Warden until Prince Conrad is well enough to rule. The knife wounds will take some time to heal even with my sister's attentions and she expects some permanent crippling has been done" Aether flicked his wings as a dark expression crossed his face, it looked like anger. Or the closest thing to it that an angel as fair as he could express. "But one of the Council Lords brought up a law that complicates matters... that is what they are currently debating."

Delilah stroked her cousin's hair gently, feeling her heart sink a little. Permanent crippling? Would Conrad ever be the same again? She looked up to Aether as he mentioned complications.
"What law is that?" she asked softly.

Aether shifted uneasily, his wings curling as if around him for a moment before they floated open again, seeming to move of their own accord.
"A law that states a Warden may only act as a guardian and advisor to an actual member of the royal family." He winced, having hoped to avoid this conversation, "Another member of the royal bloodline, no matter how distantly related, must rule with the Warden's support until the time the true heir is able to take the throne."

Delilah froze, understanding immediately what Aether was alluding to.
"But there are others out there, right? Ones with more experience in... ruling a kingdom..."
She was starting to feel herself panic again.

Aether wouldn't make eye contact with Delilah for the time being, hating putting her so completely on the spot.
"No... not really My Lady." He admitted sheepishly, "But my brother and sisters are trying to work around the law, trying to give the position of Warden to one of our number so that they can be confident we'll maintain the kingdom properly until prince Conrad is well."

Delilah nodded, trying to calm.
"Yes... they'll accept that, surely..."
She certainly wasn't fit to take charge. Her royal heritage had been something that had been sheltered from her the majority of her life. It was always assumed that she would be married to some high-ranking Knight or wealthy Lord, and that she would never have to deal with the more serious side of her position in society.

Aether was watching Delilah with his intense purple eyes, his head tilted as he watched her.
"You're... scared of who you are?" He asked, his voice one of confusion, he did not understand how one could fear their given station, he remembered little of his life before he became an arc, but he was certain he'd always known his fate.

Delilah paused.
"After my father died, my mother took me away from the castle," she said quietly.
"So all of this is so new to me... without being put into a position of responsibility straight away. I panicked enough when she told me it was time for me to go to court."
The was another moment of silence.
"I'm not scared. Just... uncertain..."

Aether blinked slowly, working out an understanding of her words in his head. The thoughts of mortals were slow to his mind but not impossible to comprehend.
"You should not be afraid of uncertainty." He said with a warm smile, "Uncertainty is what gives life its colour. If you knew all it would be frightfully black and white."

((Nothing specific. Though he's helping with her insecurities, perhaps unintentionally she can dig up some for-- OOOOH IDEA! Perhaps Delilah looks a lot like her Great Grandmother or something, and human-Aether was in unrequited love with her? The memories would be faint for Angel-Aether, but the residual insecurity would remain. Perhaps some unintentional digging can unearth that?))
