Sabela was out of the carriage nearly the instant it stopped, a horrible feeling weighing her down inside when it wasn't Llyr's voice she heard giving orders. He hadn't spoken much to her these last few days, but she was certain he was keeping something from her. Now it seemed that fear was confirmed. She ran to the Knight's side.
"Oh god... is he okay?" she whispered.

"Fever your highness." The Knight who held Llyr replied as the Princess hurried over to him, "Advanced too. Sods been keepin' quiet." He offered Llyr over to Sabela instantly. "We're too far from any city or settlement to send for a healer." The knight looked agitated as he stood. He then turned back to the other soldiers and barked an order for them to move the horses and the carriage to the nearest clearing.
"I'll carry the commander, just tell me what to do." The knight said, taking Llyr off her hands again.

Sabela touched Llyr's face tenderly, feeling the heat under her fingers.
'Why didn't you say anything?...'
She looked up to the Knight.
"We should get him somewhere cool first. Then I'll redress his wound and we'll work from there..."

"The carriage perhaps?" The knight suggested, "And there should be a river nearby here, i can fetch some water." It seemed he really did want to be helpful.

The Knight made sure his grip on Llyr was secure before he headed off to where the others had moved the carriage. It didn't take him long to open the door and lay the fevered knight out across the seats there.
"I'll be back with the water soon." He said, hurrying out of the carriage, leaving the Princess with Llyr.

"Llyr..." Sabela whispered as she joined him.
She kissed his forehead gently, hating how warm his skin felt against her lips.
"Why do you have to be so stubborn?..."
Gently, she worked away his armour and tunic in order to get to the bandage underneath.

The Knight returned with the water by the time Sabela had removed Llyr's armour and clothing so that she might access the wound site. Even he could tell it was infected, the angry red inflammation was obvious.
"How could that have happened? You redressed it every evening didn't you your majesty?" He set the pail of water down where she could reach it, fetching her medical supplies for her from the other side of the carriage.

Sabela looked down.
"He wouldn't let me near it last night," she said, sounding ashamed.
She should have pushed him.
"I'm going to need my medical kit..."

The knight had already thought of that, and had them in his hand. He immediately offered them to the princess.
"Sods always been like that... even when we were boys training as Page's." the Knight screwed up his nose. Obviously this man had been a comrade of Llyr's for some time.
"I remember Sir Geddin broke Llyr's arm during training. He said nothing about it and kept training till the bone broke through his flesh." The knight winced, "Geddin sent him to the healer quick as a flash then."

Sabela cringed.
"Though, if there's one thing that makes up for his stubbornness, it's his resilience..." she said softly.
Gently, she began to clean the wound, working out a few of his loose stitches. It didn't look very good...
"I wish I was able to do this properly, instead of the long way..."

Llyr made a small noise of weary discomfort as Sabela inspected the wound.

The Knight shrugged, seeming indifferent.
"You've done a fair enough job so far your highness." He said, "If i may be crude, he aint dead, so you're doing something right." There came a yell from outside at that moment.
"Pardon highness, i'd better go keep this mob in check. Call if you require anything." The Knight abruptly left the carriage

Sabela nodded, before turning her attention back to her patient.
"Oh Llyr..." she sighed as she finished flushing out the wound. "Why do you have to be so difficult?..."
She measured out a new length of bandage.
