Social Skills were learnt during the medievil period just fine and they had no school then. Granted, they weren't as advanced in what they needed to know to survive in the modern world AND they didn't learn stuff in their sleep - but it still holds that they learnt their social skills in their free time as we would be able to if that was the case. Social skills from recess and lunch - like their free time?

And medieval children had other modes of learning their skills and social abilities. They learned to sew, cook and clean from other women, and thus learned to interact with other women. Those women in turn taught them how to interact with men.
For the men, they were taught sword-craft or building or other 'manly' tasks by other men, and thus learned to interact with men and women from those men.
That was a driving force behind the severe genderal division.
Just because they didn't have formal 'schools' does not mean it didn't work the same way.
